This was definitely going to be a RE game before it was changed into a new IP.
DMC started this way, and there's hook man RE4, RE Outbreak was in a similar situation. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case for Haunting Grounds as well. I bet RE5 Lost In Nightmare DLC reuses scrapped ideas from this.

I remember the critic for Game Informer ripping this game to shreds. But his description--and the screenshots--made me want to play it.
Bought it that same week. It's a decent game. Never got "Illegal In Some States" unlocked though.

>> No.8751913

It's based on the 2nd (or 3rd maybe, there were so many) scrapped RE4 concept. Leon was supposed to meet a girl in Spencer's castle who had a dog companion and I think she was going to be playable in some segments. It was also going to reveal the T-Virus came from the body of an ancient immortal king entombed in a lost civilization under the castle. I really don't know what the fuck they were thinking during that period.

CT for PSX is one of my all time favorite games. I highly doubt this is better, but to be fair, I'll have to give it a go.
I always hear HG was a "spiritual successor" to CT. Given how Struggle Within and CT3 were both trash, I wasn't interested. Night Cry looked like shit, too, and it was a "spiritual successor" of CT backed by CT's creator.
I get bummed out when I think of how I'll never play CT for the first time again.

>> No.8752417

>>8752330
i also like CT1(2) mostly because it seemed to be the most grounded. what didnt you like about CT3? the ghosts and fantasy elements are dumb but to be fair clock tower has always had supernatural elements. haunting ground does as well so prepare for that.

I didn't like CT3 because of its fantasy elements. Which, if I'm being honest, probably stems from me being butthurt that it wasn't more like CT1(2).
I liked those characters, I liked the lore, I liked the game play. And CT3 was like another game with the CT name slapped on it. At least Struggle Within had a similar feel and an interesting premise, but it didn't make up for the ass progression and disintegrating story line.
And why was CT3's protag given the same name as the protag in SW?
Maybe I'm just grumpy.
You ever watched Phenomena? It heavily influenced CT1(2) and it's a great film on its own.
There's also a CYOA style pair of novels out there, one written from Helen's perspective and one from Jennifer's that are very interesting takes on the CT1/1(2) story lines. Helen's novel has a full fan translation, Jennifer's got a lengthy summary written up in English by the same translator.

youre way deeper into it than me dude, i just like being hunted by an invincible threat. in a way i think clock tower could be considered a precursor to alien isolation, outlast, etc. if you miss the old point and click gameplay with a lot of trial and error, i wouldnt NOT recommend giving nightcry a couple hours of your time.

The first two Clock Tower games are two of my favorite games of all time (Meaning Super Famicom and PS1), and I consider Haunting Ground to be the only real sequel to them. I don't doubt that assets might've been used in it from the RE4 beta, but I'd be hard pressed to believe it wasn't a CT game from conception with how well it fits the play style and themes of original CT. The dog aspect did a lot for it when initially I thought I would hate the addition, though if you know the game well enough Hewie does make it pretty easy outside of max difficulty no bonus item playthroughs.

Only thing I'll mention for first playthrough is that there's a crafting mini game that can get you consumables that help you, but it can also get you really overpowered equip items that make the game way too easy. If you chance into one of those items, do yourself a favor and don't use it.

Here's the site:
http://3getu841.web.fc2.com/mods-2014.html

Japanese modder made comprehensive model swap for various Capcom characters, but you need the PC version obviously. Install the "Main Game Fix" then choose a model and unzip into the right directories. Fiona comes with her own voice file, but you can pick a different one if you want. Jill's is nice.

I don't like the official PS2 classics on PS3 cause you can't easily control the fan speed with them, like you can with PS2 ISOs.

Luckily it seems the custom config for the game is just a simple switch usable with the ISO too.
