It had no marketing and the box art was typically terrible. They tried to make Bonk into it's mascot but it had an uphill battle since there really wasn't a killer app the system could rally around. Back then systems were very dependent on having a "personality." Even the Genesis struggled for a bit until Sonic became a thing. Back when it was just about home ports of Sega arcade games there wasn't a lot of hype.
