Just finished replaying it and it's still a lot of fun.

game is awesome and managed to be more fun than Souls in a lot of ways. I remember the combat being really clunky but the level design was phenomenal

I don't like the combos and the controls aren't the best, but those aside, it's really realistic, challenging, and fun. It's definitely more advanced than the ones found in Mount and Blade, Dark Souls, and even For Honour.

How is it not? Using directional buttons to choose the speed, direction, and technique of the weapon swing already makes it better than dark souls. Your character evades attacks by hopping, rolling, crouching, or sidestepping left and right, and that's more sophisticated than Mount and Blade and For Honour.
