The music is so unique in the series, I love every soundtrack but it's a shame we never got one in the style of the first ever again. I'd still never trade the OSTs for the other 3 away.

>>8733774
It looks graphically atrocious. I don't even understand why it has to be dragons, or what any of the cybernetic stuff has anything to do with anything else. I read that this series has "le ebin lore" but honestly, it all feels amateurish at best. I'll see if Saga is any better, but so far my hopes are being summarily dashed. And people pay exorbitant prices just to play these... games.

>>8733792
You're fucking insane. Star Fox 64 is the baseline measure of what it means to be a great on-rails shooter (And remember, YOU brought it up first, so allow me to counter). All you do in Panzer, as far as I can tell, is mash the A button while you try to aim that very poor square reticule at hideous fucking enemies jittering against the grainy Saturn backgrounds, and occasionally charge to do a string of shots.

Compare that to SF64, where it has all range mode parts, U-turning, increased bank turning, barrel rolls to evade and reflect shots, team banter, giant epic bosses, and a more space opera feel than whatever rinky dink fanfic Team Andromeda tried cobbling together with the made up language or the dreary locales (Probably to hide the Saturn's poor 3D capabilities). Also, I hear this game is also 2 hours long. Is there any replay value? I highly doubt it.

>>8733857
"Its not for you", yeah, where does it end? When people stop acting like high and mighty pricks? You guys sucked this game off for ages, and it just doesnt seem up to snuff. Im debating this on the pretense that this game is worthy of its popularity, but its just more Segatard cope at the end of the day. No seriously, try telling me in what fashion is this game any better than, say, SF64, or Sin and Punishment.

With that argument you could also call PD a "scaly" game. But the reality is that neither of them are pervert (ok, Rare might have went a bit furro with Krystal... I guess they liked the Amiga after all, these brits), but calling Star Fox furry is like calling, I dunno, Woody Woodpecker or any other classic cartoon with animals "furry". Fucking dumbass, the style is based off designed off the works of the French artist Moebius, which is a thousand times more imaginative than fucking fighter ships in space. The reasons people pay tons of money to play the Panzer Dragoon games are
1) the Saturn didn't sell well outside Japan, so the games go for ridiculous prices
2) most Saturn games never saw re-releases
3) people in general are ignorant on emulation, downloading games and bios files

You keep bringing up Starfox and yet the only, ONLY one they ever got right was the one on 64, which came out TWO YEARS after the first Panzer Dragoon, you fucking idiot. Since then, Nintendo has completely disappointed their fans with fucked Starfox releases, never again giving Starfox fans what they wanted.

"Furry" was around, see Sabrina on Amiga, but it was very niche and the average person didn't know about that weird fetish, like nowadays that the internet made everyone aware and there's a lot more people into it.
Saying anything with animal characters from the 90s is "furry" is shitty bait by people who have a weird brain programming.

I'll try to share my opinions on what you said in roughly the order you wrote them.

Comparing this game to StarFox 64 graphically is a bit of a stretch due to the rapidly advancing 3d graphics.
Starfox for SNES came out in March of 93. Panzer Dragoon came out in March of 95. Panzer Dragoon Zwei came in March of 96. Stafox 64 released in April of 97.

So, by release date this first PD game is right in the middle of the two starfox games, which it is what it looks like graphically in my opinion. I would say that every game I just listed was at the cutting edge of home console graphics at its time. 3d polygonal graphics really were improving that fast. Panzer Dragoon Orta came out in 02 and looks better than all of these of course. But graphics don't make the game.

Starfox 64 is a great game, maybe better than Panzer Dragoon idk. Its definitely longer, it might be longer than PD1 and 2 combined. The dogfights are fun too but the level two boss in PD is a good 1 on 1 dragon battle. The final bosses in Panzer Dragoon 1 and 2 are both better than Andross and his brain. I'd say they're about even on bosses.

There's more to PD than just button mashing, that seems like a ridiculous simplification. Even space harrier involved strategy and we're a long way from there. Controlling the camera was a completely novel concept at the time. Combined with the two different types of shots there was a lot of strategy involved. Using the radar and making decisions about prioritizing which enemies to shoot first and whether to shoot them with the gun or homing missiles all while maneuvering your dragon makes for a rail shooter with depth and strategy. Maximize your score by shooting homing missiles or go for the easier kills with the gun? Maybe just focus on evasion? Tank a few hits but keep that 100% high score running and just barely limp to the finish line victorious? All stratagies I've used. Part of the fun is experimenting on different playthroughs.

Starfox has barrel rolls (a simple button push) for avoiding enemies along with loops while in the Panzer Dragoon games you typically aim and shoot enemy projectiles which can be more difficult, or you need to shoot your enemies before they can even fire at you. People have different preferences on this one, for good reasons. Multiple lock-ons vs single lockons with a blast radius are another great differentiating factor. I generally see the differences in these two games as good things, like Sonic and Mario, not "Starfox is doing it right and Panzer is doing it wrong"

The main replay value of Panzer Dragoon is trying to beat your previous high score. In the original, there are no alternate or secret routes. This is the same type of replay value that so many other legendary games have, especially arcade classics (which are a definite influence).

The story seemed fine to me. I like Starfox's ok too. I don't really care too much. They're quite different. Both have good music but PD has the edge over both Starfox 64 and its sequel to me.

If anybody is paying for Saturn games
they're a complete idiot, I think we agree here.

Panzer Dragoon 2 has alternate routes, improved graphics, 3d controller support and your dragon evolves to get more homing missiles. I've always thought the final level where you attack an airship was amazing, especially for 96. I always thought the snowy level was a dud though. It has more replay value with a pandra's box menu where you can create your own scenarios. Maybe you'll like this one a little better?

Panzer Dragoon Saga was fun and had a unique battle system and interesting story. I'm not too into RPGs but I liked it. Best game of all time? Probably not but it kept me interested, which is saying something.

Orta might be the best of the series, at least in some ways. I kind of prefer the older titles for their arcade-style simplicity. It takes bits and pieces of all of the previous games and puts together a great shooter with a story that is actually legitimately cringe-inducing. It's a truly awful story, no argument here. You can change your dragon an the fly, speed up and slow down like in Starfox 64, level it up by collecting power-ups and use positioning on the boss battles like in Saga. There's tons of unlockable content and good music. Great graphics and its longer than the other two.
