Play them in production order, as following:

Super Mario Bros
Super Mario Bros 2
Super Mario Bros 3
Super Mario World

or like this:
Super Mario World
Super Mario Bros 3
Super Mario Bros 2
Super Mario Bros

Just play SMB 1, SMB 3 and SMW.

You'll probably have the best time with Super Mario World. It's my favorite and it's easier than the others.

Play the first, then both of the 2's, and then 3. You can try World if the NES ones are too hard.

>> No.8729908

Grab an emulator and give SMB1 on NES a try. If you like it, keep playing from there. If it doesn't feel like it's for you, consider trying again with the All-Stars collection on SNES, or if you prefer, there's a line of GameBoy Color and Advance remakes instead. The remakes are fine but I recommend giving the original versions a test run first.

>> No.8729910

Coming off of NSMB, World is probably easiest to get into. Play a patched All-Stars rom of you're gonna tackle 1-3, since I doubt you'll be able to beat them in one go unless you want to abuse save states.

If you play those and still want more Mario, play Super Mario Land 1 & 2. The first one is beatable in half an hour, but it'll probably take a few tries.

Start with the original and play in release order. Play the SNES version of lost levels because the Famicom version is less forgiving and requires you to beat the game 8 times to unlock every world.

Ignore SMW and SMB2 (USA) entirely.

Play SMB1 (Japan), SMB2 (Japan) and SMB3 (Japan) in that order.

You should not be allowed to post on /vr/ about Mario games if you haven't beaten all these games as stated with proof.

You can play World directly after 1 and have a good time. 3 is good as a final classic mario.

>> No.8731547

2 and 3 both have the 1988 date, so it is fitting to play them alongside one another. Makes 3 last longer and 2 more tolerable.

SMB1/2/USA is worth a shot, but if they feel off and you don't like them then just skip them.

Just play world and world romhacks, Infinite levels and nice controls.
Nes mario controls are not good compared to it

Despite 3 having weaker controls its infinitely better than world.

Look up Mario's sprites in DK 1994; he's small Mario throughout the whole game, then changes in to big Mario in the ending.

just because it's more difficult doesn't mean it's better. Lost Levels is just a retread of the first game but harder, but the difficult isn't actually satisfying because it's so poorly designed and janky that it's obvious it was just a cash grab. It feels like a glorified rom hack rather than an actual Nintendo game. there's a reason they didn't sell it in America. What's wrong with SMB2 USA? Do you just hate the fact that it's actually enjoyable to play?

I'll order by gameplay feel:

Classic
>1. Super Mario Bros.
>2. Super Mario Land

It's own thing
>3. Super Mario Bros. USA

More fluid controls, world map
>4. Super Mario Bros. 3
>5. Super Mario World
>6. Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins

Lost Levels you should play if you have an itch for more classic SMB style. But I worry that you may get burned out if you try to play it immediately after SMB1 because it's so similar. Yeah it's "harder" but honestly I don't remember it being that difficult and kind still coasted through it. That was a long time though. Not a bad game but not better then SMB1 either, trickier but just more of the same.

Its not enjoyable. The mechanics are jank and its not as challenging. SMB2 Japan filters a lot of children such as yourself.

Neither version of Mario 2 is very good and I usually just skip straight to 3.
