This is all 675 licensed US NES games.

http://vgstats.blogspot.com/2008/01/list-of-officially-licensed-nes-games.html

Go to random.org, set it to generate a number from 1-675. Whatever game you draw, you have to play it and beat it. Good luck to the guy who draws Adventure Island, you're going to need it.

The Mexican Runner's playthroughs had conditions for games that don't have an actual ending, like with Pac-Man it was something like "reach level 20" so those might be good guideposts for games like that.

It’s a pretty easy game overall, you keep all your shit when you die so the only punishment is having to go all the way back where you were.

It's a game that could have been decent, even good, were it not for the fact that Orin's sword is short as fuck and gets outranged by almost every enemy. You can kind of get around this by baiting enemies into attacking, stepping back to avoid damage, then taking advantage of their cooldown period to get hits in, then repeating. And at least you don't get knocked the fuck back when hit like in Castlevania.

By the way, this game has a Mega Man-esque order in which to beat bosses, where after you beat a boss, you get a weapon that is only effective on a specific boss. IIRC you should start in Spain, but I forget what comes after that. Look up a FAQ if you need to for the proper order.

Even in its censored western form the game is still weirdly adult. You’d think Nintendo would come down on them like a hammer to remove anything vaguely mature but there’s still bursts of blood when you shoot someone in the sniper stage, there’s still the outside view of the hotel implying Duke Togo is about to pound some vag, there’s still a weirdly complex politically driven plot featuring the KGB and East Germany. It’s all sorts of red flags but Nintendo turned the other cheek I guess. Kind of interesting how they had these extremely strict guidelines and they required you to submit a full playthrough so they could see any questionable content, yet a couple of games managed to slip in a (light) swear or even some outright gore like with Bionic Commando

Probably should have played the arcade version but whatever. Supposedly influential for its genre and sold really well. The flickering is really bad and enemies will just disappear as well as their bullets and hit detection is wonky. The gameplay is pretty basic and easy so far, just move up and hit the guys in the way since they disappear once they go off screen. On level 2-4 and it seems like the levels just repeat with the same layout. I'll probably finish it since it seems really short and it's forgiving with the continues but it's really just making me wish I was playing Contra.

Beat it. The last few stages were much more difficult with bullets flying everywhere and enemies constantly spawning. Sometimes I could run through easily and others it took me a couple tries. The hit detection is really off, sometimes I wouldn't get hit by bullets and others I feel like I would die to nothing. Also there are powerups but you need to go underground to find them and I only found an entrance 3 times. Overall it wasn't that bad but I wish it had actual levels other than just the same 4 levels repeating 4 times with more enemies and bullets per repeat.

And done.

Now this game isn't really what i would call a "good" one, but i enjoyed this ride surprisingly well. I like how it tries to incorporate various styles of gameplay in a single package (there's sidescrolling action, shoot'em up, first person shooter and first person maze exploration all spread throughout various levels. There's even a couple sniper shooting scenes which i liked a lot), this game really could have been a classic had it just executed all of its ideas a little better. Also, as >>8745498 says, it has a surprisingly good and mature plot for an NES game, which is arguably the best part of the title.

I got Toki and beat in surprisingly in about 45 minutes. I used a continue to keep going so my score is pretty low. The difficulty of the NES game as compared to the arcade game is astronomically easier - I would wholeheartedly recommend Toki on NES over the arcade version. If you beat levels without continuing, you can even extend your life bar from 2 to 3, maybe even 4. I didn't get that many, so I'm not sure. The arcade version just says "fuck you" and beats your head in every two seconds, but the NES version is pretty even tempoed and relaxed play.

Now, about the bad part, well...

The sidescrolling combat in this game sucks. Hard. There are two main forms of attacking in this game: kicking and shooting. Shooting sucks. You can't do it while jumping OR ducking (what kind of side-scrolling shooter doesn't let you shoot while ducking?) and the animation takes too long while also leaving you stationary and vulnerable in place for nearly a second. The most effective form of attacking in this game is the kicking, which happens when you press B in the air (or on the ground when without bullets), it's a fast attack that's very effective against almost anything, but guess what? It's broken. Every time you kick, there's a 50/50 chance of either you actually hitting your blow or the hitbox not working. I have gotten hit many, many many times because i tried to kick an enemy and the game thought i had actually just touched it normally in a way that would give me damage.

There are also cryptic parts where you're supposed to press up against some arbitrary part of the background and it'll take you to another place. Shit like a random building from the city or a gap between some trees. I seriously don't know how the fuck you were supposed to figure that shit out without using a strategy guide.

There are parts underwater where you're supposed to swim inbetween some mines, and i swear to god there are a LOT of these you literally cannot get through without taking damage.

Oh, and by the way, there are several sections that will take you right to the beginning of the last level in case you die. Until you get good enough at said parts to reliably be able to do them without dying, this shit is EXTREMELY frustrating and i almost ragequit from playing at thevery last level because of this tedious "feature".

Overall, i rank this game a 5/10. It's not terrible, i could have rolled way worse. But there's a good reason it made a brief AVGN appearance.

Technos did DD, silly. And Bad Dudes wasn't an in-house port job anyway, Data East outsourced it to SAS Sakata and Namco published it (the Famicom version used a Namco mapper, changed to MMC3 for the Western release).
