God knows how long it would have taken for me to give Earthbound a chance if a friend didn't have it. I had certainly heard of it but nothing was screaming "buy me" about it between the stupid ads and simple graphics in an era of exponentially improving 2D and 3D. I'm glad my fat, stupid, Cartman-esque friend had it. The music blew me away, and that type of gameplay was new to me at the time. It was easily the most stylish game ever made when it came out.
