What game(s) are these envelope ladies from?

Looks like the shitty generic art style for Quest 64, but no idea if it is.

I do hate it when games rush the ending, I don't mean make the game a cinematic fest or make it story focused, just a game with a proper ending, not kthxbai and kicks you out of the house the second you defeat the last baddie.

I just tried to look up characters from that and nobody seemed to match. As of this point in the magazine's run, that game is probably a little too new still anyway, though it's been mentioned several times and is clearly on the way. A few envelopes popped up, not long before this, depicting characters from Super Famicom games that were featured in the magazine but never released in North America - Fire Emblem, Tales of Phantasia, and maybe a few others. I think a few envelopes have also shown anime characters, but I imagine there are very few of those that the magazine would select for publishing, since they mostly aren't relevant to Nintendo in America at this time. Sailor Moon and Ranma characters have probably shown up on occasion, but I can't think of any other series that have been represented. Even Dragon Ball hasn't gotten a proper foothold yet.

I think its a weird interpretation of Chun Li and Cammy.

Cammy seems like too much of a stretch... and what's the city in the background then?

Tifa and Yuffie.

This seems... plausible? I hadn't really considered it because for Nintendo Power editors, promoting FF7 like this would be forbidden. I haven't actually played that game myself though. Is that city in the background FF7-ish at all?

Chun Li and Mai from Fatal Fury was my first thought.

Next Nintendo Power thread should come up soon, with 102 and 103, if you'd like to follow along.

Okay I like this one. Chun-Li is always a strong possibility but I hadn't thought of Mai. The outfits are invented I guess, but maybe that makes sense since a reader probably wouldn't expect Nintendo Power to publish proper Mai fanart. She does at least have big boobs constrained by red fabric. And the hairdo seems about right, though the color is wrong - but maybe that's just meaningless anime styling. The city could be anything; they come from different settings so maybe the artist imagined a new backstory to justify the background and the clothing and to explain why these two characters would be together.

>>8715032
After looking closer you can see the artist is a jap from Canada. He's probably familiar with JP only (at the time) games/anime. My guess is Chi Chi and Bulma

>>8717652

Interesting but hard to see... is the city a Dragon Ball-ish thing though? Maybe this could help explain that part of the picture. I know that franchise has a weird version of Earth with some futuristic stuff in it. The magazine has at least mentioned Dragon Ball several times, so they certainly are aware of it, and they wouldn't consider it unconnected to Nintendo.

Probably some kid's OCs. I remember when I was an unoriginal 12 year old, I used to take the hair from one anime character, put it on the face of another, put them in cool 90s clothes, and say I created them. I'm going to guess that's what they did, which is why it looks so familiar but no one can quite place what they're from.
