Modded a couple of these with retro-go and a 16mb chip. The compression means I can fit roughly ~25 gb/gbc on it (size dependent). What would you include? I've already got all the essentials (Mario, Zelda, DK, Kirby, Pokemon Blue + Perfect Crystal, tetris)

It has save states and a 3x speed up function so i'm thinking it would be good for some old RPG. Ideas?

Here's a list of interesting games that were only released in Japan, but have been fan translated:
God Medicine (JRPG)
Gen the Carpenter (action platformer)
Penta Dragon (dungeon crawler / shooter)
Cave Noir (rogue like)
For the Frog the Bell Tolls (adventure)

you are definitely right. however no one should deny how fucking classy the G&W design really is.

there are bootleg cases for Raspi projects but they dont look as ggod as this.

OP here. I modded it because it has a fantastic D-pad, fits in my pocket, charges over usb C, and has save states + speed up function. It is way better than my Retroid Pocket 2. I can't emphasize how good this D-pad feels. And like other anon said, it just looks classy.

Now he can put roms on it before putting it on a shelf.

It's a huge pain in the ass and basically is memory gimped. I remember buying it when it came out, with the intention of modding it, but when I realized it was designed specifically so that it was impossible to be modded I just returned it. I should have held on to it though, I forgot how retardly easy it is to resell Nintendo bullshit for free money.

>playing handhelds outside your home
do people really?

>> No.8705336

>>8704794
It's really not. You just need to use a raspberry pi and leads. No soldering required unless you want to replace the chip.

Zelda version has 4mb which will fit all the gbc zelda games. Mario version only has 1mb so you'll have to swap out the chip (there are ebay services) or deal with only having a few NES games.

Building the software is a pain in the ass because some retard was shilling his guide all over reddit saying that is was so good that you could simply paste commands into the terminal. But he had errors in his own guide. I've been some bucks of friends to do this for them. Right now I'm putting an STLINK in a zelda unit for a guy. Now that's a fucking pain. Like switch modchip on steroids.

>> No.8705425

>>8705340
Why would you put an STLINK in it? Like I said, raspberry pi and leads. The v2 of the mario guide had some errors in it. I used a combo of that and the link guide. And some help on the stacksmashing discord. This was my first raspberry pi / micro soldering project and it really wasn't that bad. I'm kinda retarded and I figured it out on a Saturday afternoon and evening.

this, there are custom G&W-like shells for the raspi, and portables barely based on the G&W, but not a single one is as classy as the original.

if the raspi makers were to stop halfassing shit up and actually make a proper G&W handheld case for the raspi-zero at least, modding the new G&Ws will be downright pointless.
