Why are PS1 jrpgs so expensive holy fuck
Are there any ones that are cheap and worthwhile?

I bought parasite eve for 30 bucks but its not a traditional rpg but still one.
Look for greatest hits copy they generally go for cheaper.

My complete copy of ff9 costs like $10. It’s not valuable and it’s pretty good if you’re into ff9.

>> No.8705792

>>8705698
because you're a fucking idiot who is willing to pay money for crap that you can buy on steam for $10

>> No.8705794

>>8705734
FF7, 8, 9, Chrono Cross, and at least the Anthologies were easily printed until the late 2000s and stores still had new copies. And last I saw, the Square store online still had copies of these
These at least, shouldn't be worth anymore than 20ish, even new

Because they get talked about the most on YouTube, and are the most palatable to current gamers, along with horror games.

>> No.8705862

You have to pay the JRPG tax. It's the same as the Nintendo tax. Either you get over it or you purchase something else, purchase their re-release, or just download it for free.

>>8705698
download it for free and emulate it you dark child

If you actually cared about playing them, you could do it for free. those prices are for milking faggot collectors like you.

Just get an action replay and you can burn all of them for free

More like the EOP tax. The JP versions usually only cost a fraction of the localized prices.

Buy the japanese versions. They cost a fraction of the amount.

How come the japanese retro market is so different?

Until you actually want the good stuff...then you'll pay up, even in Japan. It became a lot more expensive over the past decade.

>>8706990
Is it really? Sure you can get the garbage bin stuff for cheap there but the really sought after games are all incredibly expensive as well. Then there are some collectors in Japan collecting western stuff...

>> No.8708221

>>8706990
Living spaces in Japan are cramped compared to western countries, so they don't have space for huge walls of games, and generally they rent or buy & return retro games

>> No.8708225

>rent
No. Game rental isn't practiced in Japan, never was.
It's a very western concept.

I think it is because they could be played on all the Playstation systems from 1 to 3. The good thing is they are still on PSN for cheap. Heed the advice from >>8706983 because they are plentiful and inexpensive. I'd recommend to OP Final Fantasy 9 as that's pretty enjoyable fun for under $5USD.

This plus you get to play the far superior version of Azure Dreams
>>8708065
Pretty much all JP PS1 RPGs can still be picked up super cheap outside of Nemuru Mayu and some rarer stuff.

>> No.8708315

>>8708292
Other than voice acting, what does the Japanese version of Azure Dreams have?

>> No.8708332

>>8708315
Few things uncensored but the big draw is the voice acting

You just have to be a smart shopper because a lot of sellers ask bullshit prices then sit on their inventory for a year or two.

>> No.8711029

You buy classic console games on Steam? Are you retarded? If your standards are that low you might as well just emulate for free, which will also give you a better experience

Final Fantasy VIII and Grandia are the best RPGs on the PS1. Why aren't they in your picture?

With virtual property being worth serious money now it's only a matter of time before they pull this shit on the wrong guy and end up having their asses sued off. With class actions to follow.

The Sega Saturn was my primary console at the time for multiplats and exclusives, so I got Grandia for the Saturn, since that's where I got hyped for it from the magazines of the day.
