Its really cool on the 64 version, there are levels you can access that are hidden in the PC version and even if you use the 64 version level select code, it wont show them, but they are still unlockable in this version by doing the secret means to get to them.

The game is huge, dukebots are hilarious with their own multiplayer maps (or multi-player if you have friends) i prefer the dual smgs, and different weapons, and i could go on. It's hands down the best duke experience on console, but enough going for it to make it different that it's worth owning on its own right. As for the other anon saying lack of music, i think the silence adds more to the nature of some of the levels. Also to add, certain stages do contain a creepy ambient loop that keeps the player on edge.

the n64 has some shity filters and censorship, the saturn version plays well, has music, no censorship and no shity filters, why would you sacrifice image quality, music and no censorship just for some few levels

>> No.8704658

>>8704647
The censorship is lame, but they replaced it with new stuff and even expanded some of the maps, where as the Saturn port was more faithful to the original, but so much content was cut and scrapped to fit the game. The filters on 64 are not that terrible, and it runs at a higher fps i do believe. And more content was added than a few levels...
Sorry dude but you are just wrong. I have played all ports of this game, and i agree the Saturn port is good (love lobotomy) but this is one of those rare instances the 64 comes out on top.

What was neat in the Dukebot levels, were the levels themselves had secret areas you could open up by various means. Lot of fun times doing 4 players and splitting into teams of 2 and claiming "bases" and setting trip laser traps for like 5 minuets before we actually start going after each other.

It's a really good port, but has a lot of inaccuracies to the original game. I spent a lot of time playing the Duke Nukem 3D on PC. The Slave Driver engine works fairly differently from the Build engine. The Build engine constructs everything in 'sectors', objects can be created out of floors and ceilings. The Build engine can move sectors around like tram cars, it can do swinging doors, and have overlapping rooms. The maps in Duke 3D had to be rebuilt with real 3D space. They couldn't put certain features into the Slave Driver engine, that Build could do. Like the moving gears in Death Row. Example of moving sectors. Lobotomy still does a really good job reconstructing the game. It tries to get most of Duke Nukem 3D's features, and adds enhanced coloured lighting, and the Saturn game is in a real 3D game map, as opposed to the way the player would be teleport. Like going under water in build, you move to another part of the map. Their Quake port is quite impressive too, despite the slow framerate. But when the game was released in 1997, most people were not playing Quake 1 at the most optimal framerates, Saturn game didn't look too bad. To be honest the PS1 port is the most accurate version of Duke Nukem 3D. I have played that one. It really is the BUILD engine on PS1, but with lower quality textures and assets. The game runs slow too. At its core, this is the PC game with a CD soundtrack. PS1 game does have link cable support for more than one player. But the Saturn game had netlink, N64 definitly wins here with its two player split screen and 4 player death match. I think the N64 port is interesting. It had a lot of censorship, but the devs also decide to redesign some of the maps. I don;t mind some of it. Also, not the biggest fan of the weapon changes, It's a good port.

Two player co-cop Duke Nukem 64 was fine. I had a blast playing that in co-op. I owned a Saturn. But... I didn't have NetLink. I did however play Duke Nukem 3D co-op on a Windows 98PC at 100+FPS (type in DNRATE in the game to see the framerate) using a 56k over the phone lines to other players. I'm not even shitting on the Saturn port. I thought it was great. But it isn't an accurate port. Again, technically Duke Nukem: Total Meltdown is a direct port of the PC game. It uses the Build engine, and has the same map files. You can exploit the same Build glitches too. But has a bad framerate, unfortunately. Also, tiles and sprites get downgraded in resolution. Also, PS1 version does have the link cable support.

Looking directly at the PS1 version. I really don;t see much of a difference from the PS version in the first stage. The enemy sprites are lower resolution, so are many of the tiles. The PS1 version looks like it has some lighting effects not in the Build game. But that is probably due to the PS1. Outside of the Eurobeatz soundtrack and some art changes. It looks like the Build Engine game running at a low FPS. It's kinda cool to see the PS1 handle the Build engine.
Saturn port looks different right from the start. Chopped up tiles and artwork. Engine looks different, map layout deviats from the original. The Saturn game has "star Trek" doors everywhere, while the build versions have swinging doors, There's no swinging doors in the bathroom stall in the Saturn game. This version does run at a better framerate, has nice lighting effects.
N64 game, from the getgo, the devs decided to change the layout of Hollywood Haulocaust. Textures get cut up, tiles are lower colour depth, sprites are lower resolution. But it has all the Build features. Framerate not bad in Duke Nukem 64. Shame about the lack of music. Also, was never really a fan of the N64 weapons. But overall, I like this port.

I remember playing the N64 version often as a kid. Never did the co-op but the animations for the weapons are so static. Just looks awful and the lack of music or ambiance in the stages sucks.

Looks pretty good. I have to say, it does look like they ported the Build engine to the PS1 hardware. But the sky boxes look like they are polygon. because they are the only things that wobble. It's weird watching the fire go completely still at a distance. But I think that was a feature of the Build engine in lowest settings?I think? I have never really played Duke 3D at its lowest settings. I don't know what resolution it is running at, one of the PS1 standard ones? The devs did try to keep as much of the game map as possible. I noticed a missing mirror in the first stage behind the cinema screen, probably gone for performance reasons. Poster art is changed. One is a MIB parody poster. Lower Resolution tiles and sprites. There also seems to be an addition lighting effect when Duke fires. It really seems like the devs tried to port the DOS Build game over to the PS1 hardware.

I really like the Saturn version of Red Light District. But the level layout is quite a bit different from the Build engine game. I think the devs said that they had to piece together the maps like a puzzle in 3D and make them fit together. If I am not mistaken Red Light District in Build has some moments where the level overlaps with itself. Also the Saturn game is missing the spinning door at the smut/ magazine shop, no swinging door to at the bathroom. It's still a good remake of the map. PS1 game looks identical to the Build game. But runs at a bad framerate.

Yeah none of them are really bad ports, I think the Saturn is the best overall but it wouldn't be a bad experience on PSX or N64 either.

I have played the game on the PS1 a few times, emulated it at least once. And rewatched it again in youtube videos to refresh my mind. It's accurate because it is using a port of Ken Silverman's Build engine for the PS1. All the traits are there. But looks like it is running fairly low resolution, and with a variable framerate that looks very low. Saturn game runs at a notably higher framerate, and displays at a higher resolution. Maps are remade for Lobotomy's Slave Driver engine. They do a pretty good job recreating all 4 episodes. But their engine can't actually reproduce some of the features in Build. The biggest loss is the moving tram cars in some stages. The last of swinging doors is a bit lame. Couldn't they add that in? Still an impressive port and best FPSes on the Saturn. The lighting still impresses me in the Saturn game. PS1 game is closer to the original game. With the exception of some altered tiles, and maybe a few altered maps. Not really seeing much different. Saturn game, is less accurate and runs better. N64 game is also based on the Build engine. It can do all the same things the PS1 game can, but uses polygon rendering. It can display polygon models. Almost like a polymost for N64. N64 game losses sound, and makes quite a few changes. Also 2 player split screen co-op and 4 player duke match. All you needed were a few extra N64 gamepads.

All three of these ports are interesting, but I feel like the Saturn and PSX ports are just a novelty nowadays, not worth checking out anymore. If one absolutely wants to play Duke 3D on the Saturn or PSX, then maybe. You can have fun with them, but there nothing more than an inferior version of the PC original. Only the N64 version is still worth playing today, just because it's so different from all the other versions and it has an amazing multiplayer mode. Really a great experience if you have one or two friends that are into retro gaming. Just my opinion. I own all three versions, but I only ever go back to the N64 one.

That goes for both PS1 and N64 versions.
You can do various movement tricks and glitches from the DOS version with relative ease there, minus the difficulty of performing them on controller.

Time to Kill was an alright Tomb Raider clo.e, FMV intro was dope as fuck.

Zero Hour is based as Hell and very underrated.

Land of the Babes is just a worse, less-polished Time to Kill.
