I don't know what you mean by that. More standardization of how to move in a 3D environment and how the camera functions in 3D space since a lot of that was experimented with in 5th gen and it was ironed out for 6th gen.

You can trace this back to earlier generations. Especially the divergence from an arcade mindset when developing a game and more of a long form home experience.

It depends on what you're looking for. They're often easier for a modern audience to play because they share so much mechanics-wise with modern vidya, but that can sometimes mean they're outclassed by later games.
