I really want to play them and the only way to do that on PC is Console Classix but it has too much delay and the program is very unstable in general. I have no problem with buying an NES but it seems like many of the games are rare and expensive so I don't know what to do. The NES and Family Computer minis are okay for their price based on quantity but is the emulation okay? I'm asking this because the videos on YouTube are made by people who can't really tell the different. The switch looks annoying although it's tempting because it has many games.

The Nintendo mini consoles are pretty decent, the controllers really make the experience imho. If that's the route you want to take, it's not a bad one. Switch online is objectively worse due to input lag, monthly fee, etc. I have NSO but I don't use it for the classic game selection.

Why specifically do you want to play NES games legally?

>but it seems like many of the games are rare and expensive so I don't know what to do
The games may seem expensive to you, but only collectors care about these old games. If the original rights holders bothered to actually go back and make more NES cartridges, the prices of the new cartridges would be far less, probably not even enough to cover the cost of producing them. People that want to actually play the games are already just downloading them for free.
The 95-year copyright term is about 90 years longer than it should be for software, because lawmakers are too stupid to figure it out. Don't confuse legality with morality.

Give a legitimate reason why you want to play the games legally and I'll give you an honest answer.

>> No.8705420

1. Buy an NES
2. Suck it up and pay $50 for a single NES game

These games weren't $5 when they came out, you know. If you want to do it the true, legal right way then cough up the cash and play the same four or five games over and over for months/years like the good old days.

>Ways to play NES games legally?
Why are Nintenzoomers so cucked?
The mini consoles are fine, but are there even ones you can buy that aren't sold by scalpers? If you get a switch for NES games, you're getting a very small selection for a subscription fee, and a sub-par gaming system.

Here's what you do
>Go on Google
>Find complete rompack
>Download it
>Get mesen
>Connect controller
>Play NES
>Stop worrying

Is this console classic thing even legal? Seems shady as fuck, I doubt Nintendo would ever allow something like this.

Not a single person who worked on these games gets a cent if you play them "legally".

Get Mesen, Nestopia UE, or fucking Retroarch and emulate you underage fucktard.

You don't know that. If a contract involves royalties, that contract remains valid.
Whether or not the devs get royalties is a case by case basis however and many would rather get a (bigger) salary while making the game than possible royalties later on.
Even if the game was knew you could apply your "the devs aren't getting a cent directly from the sale!" logic, which shows how it falls apart

You’re entitled to feel that way if you want to (and assuming this isn’t bait) but it really isn’t immoral. The NES & it’s games have been on the second-hand market exclusively for decades now, you’re not taking money out of Nintendo or any other game company’s hands by using a flashcart or emulating.

If you just want to play a few games for nostalgia’s sake it doesn’t make much sense to shell out a bunch of cash to buy them. If you’re interested in collecting as well then by all means buy an original NES and some games, just be prepared to spend more money than they’re actually worth. Pricing in the retro games market has been manipulated to benefit a few shady organizations and collectors

So you never break copyright laws ever?
You never watch pirated clips from film and television shows online? Never listen to a song on youtube uploaded by someone who doesn't own the copyright to that song?
How about all these images on 4chan? Many of these are copyright violations. I don't have the right to post this image of the Super Mario Bros. manual.
You should probably never use the internet.
