Virtual Boy and Star Fox 2 are not to be mentioned, but buried near the end of a jokey list that many people wouldn't completely read, it's possible to sneak in a reference to the fact that Nintendo is capable of occasionally failing at something.

Nintendo Power was the Nintendo Direct of its day. It was straight up owned by Nintendo. It began its life as "The Official Nintendo Fun Club Newsletter" or something similar before evolving to a full magazine.

Well it's not really wrong per se. Early in the magazine's run Classified Information might have more a trick or strategy like "you can skip this one boss in Double Dragon if you scroll him off the screen" or "if you have a tail and enough dry bones in Mario 3, you can get unlimited 1-ups if you're good enough!", sharing equal billing with things like the Konami code or the like. But cheat codes just increased in frequency and gamer curiosity across the board that by the mid 90s, everyone wanted to know more.

American game magazines are so soulless, boring and dry. I really feel bad for American kids of the 80s and 90s

These personalized scores really change the feeling of the rating system. There's a huge gap between 4.9 and 9.0! And wow did Sonja ever love Extreme-G. It suggests that the reader should pay closer attention to the review text and take the numbers less seriously. That seems like an improvement.

Still, I don't really know how to reconcile the SATISFACTION text for Mischief Makers with the corresponding score. I guess they're saying Super Mario World was just a 6.3/10 game too?
