We all know Stranger's Wrath is great. But is previous game any good? Is it underrated masterpiece or total shit?

>> No.8692637

It's awful, but 3 out of 4 ain't bad.

Not really a "misunderstood masterpiece" or anything like that. The production was a clusterfuck and the developers hated the final game themselves

If total shit like Rayman 2 and 3 gets a pass, there's no reason to hate Munch's Oddysee. Its ok.

Munch's Oddysee is great... but I got the bad ending because I wasn't saving enough of the Fuzzles. Also, don't waste 30 bucks on it now.. get the old Xbox version.

One of my great disappointments. Was really looking forward to an epic quintology, but looking back it's obvious that leftism (which is literally the crux and motivation of the franchise) cannot produce culture, it can only destroy.

legitmately my favorite game in the whole franchise, it effortlessly blends 3d platforming collectathon with lite RTS elements, there's a few puzzles to solve, you switch between two characters with diverse sets of abilities, like 2 of the levels have a bit of a racing angle to them

fuck i love this game, if you enjoy it then sadly there's not a single one other game like it in existence, so relish it you know?

why is Rayman 3 total shit? Except some bad bosses and too much fighting in general it was quite fun, and beautiful looking. But i played it as ~15years old so maybe i remember it badly

I went back to it recently...idk how I beat that game, the controls are horrendous, and the 'feel' when controlling them as well, and the world is an eyesore to look at. I can never go back to this.
After I stopped playing this, I tried Stranger's Wrath remaster after years without touching the xbox ver, and was glued to the screen for hours. Even if the world itself is pretty empty for things to do besides bounty hunting and store upgrades, the game is still so much fun, I love the camera perspective switching, his arm crossbow with little live critters, love the story behind Stranger, western mudos, that amazing ost and thick atmosphere.
God, I wish I could get more of that world, but I doubt that will ever happen. Soulstorm wasn't a huge success from the looks of it, and if they ever do make a new Oddworld game, it's going to be a sequel to Abe's story, wish is fine, I get it, it's Lanning's baby, but i'm more interested in Stranger's story now. Stranger's Wrath was never part of his grand vision, so I doubt i'll get anything else with Stranger, probably a reference or cameo and that's it. I also wouldn't want them to make him into a "destined" character either, and have a third moon appear out of nowhere.
"oh yeah, the third moon was there the whole time, dude!"

how do you think the controls are bad? i rebought Munch on PSVITA and it's still as fantastic as i remembered it being!

>> No.8694104

I genuinely don't undetstand how you guys could love this game. I played it via controller on Windows, and I agree that the controls were terrible. I played probably 1/3 to 1/2 through, and always had trouble making precise jumps; I'm not bad at other platformers. Abe and Munch bounce into the air like they're wearing rocket boots, the vertical up and down speeds feel at least double what they should be. The platforming elements were not very satisfying.
I didn't like the weird combat system - you have to fight a bunch in this one, but you don't really have much control over how combat goes, and IIRC losing certain units counts against you in your overall "X rescued" score, making you tempted to reload if some guy died in a situation you had no real control over.
There wasn't all that much atmosphere either, I felt. The story was interesting enough, and I was curious to see where it was going to go, although I couldn't stomach the janky gameplay. I don't recall what the soundtrack was like.

git gud, your comment reeks of not being able to become accustomed to the controls

>> No.8695383

Very unique, one of the few games I remembered enjoying from the original Xbox. But that was also because I loved the world, having played the previous games on the Playstation. The transition from 2D to 3D is always strange, and this is no different, it loses some of the charm, but it tries to make up for it in other ways.

breh, that person is right on the mark, and i'm an oddworld diehard. i've gotten perfect quarma twice and at no point did i ever start to feel good controlling it. the game has great cinematics and general art direction and decent ambiance, but it's tied with new&tasty for worst oddworld game.

what about it spoke to you? the butchered aesthetics? the puzzles that don't play right because they were designed for static screens? the parts that don't control like they should because they were meant for digital input? the in-game advertisements?

It's awful. I was addicted to the ps1 original as a kid and had to check this out. Couldn't even get an hour out of it in 4 years

Absolute forgettable shit. I remember I tried to like it because I loved 1 and 2 but it was clear that the move to 3D was a big mistake. The game was just utterly forgettable. Only memorable thing for me really was that you had to collect those mushrooms called spruce I think for some reason, Abe had a fantasy like jump instead of the realistic momentum based movements he had in prior games, and Munch having wheel chair gameplay which I'll admit was pretty funny and interesting as a mechanic. I also remember the big bro sligs and the new vyker enemies but as far as the enjoyment of this shit, the levels and all that I cannot even recall to you if the levels were good. Everything about the actual game and its story was just forgettable. The character designs and shit? Sure that was great I guess.

Oddworld to me is a series that only had two games.

New n tasty was completely fucked for gameplay reasons. In scrabania hard mode on PC there's a part riding Elum where it's complete luck whether you get shot or not. The original game was designed where each step moved you one tile, in the remake there was no grid and it completely fucked everything up and made it horrible to play. There was also this part near the end where I could only get past the sligs by jumping repeatedly while sprinting. The original game has extremely tight controls and each screen unfolds exactly the same time every time with the same inputs. In the remake there were multiple parts where I used the exact same strategy for 10 attempts and it finally worked the last time. The existence of health caused issues with this as well.

it wasn't a comparison meant to slander jak 2, munch is kind of crappy and jak 2 is rather good i think. just was responding to "there's no other game that has this mix of gameplay"

the original has a gritty "touch something rusty and get cut on its edge" look to it but New 'n Tasty is a great game regardless

All I remember is it moving from PS2 to Xbox and everyone acting like it was a big deal, then the game came out on launch but of course it got overshadowed by Gaylo and Munch basically went up like a fart in a grocery store.
