Can recommend any of the NHL games (96 is my fave but they're all good). Creating players and managing a team through the season is a great time sink.
Desert Strike and Jungle Strike were great action strategy games, but certainly more on the action side. Herzog Zwei is another much talked about strategy game although I personally have never actually played it (yes, yes, I know I should).

Rocket Knight Adventure is fun.

You're off to a good start. Almost every game on it is solid and has decent sequels. Golden Axe II, Shinobi III, Streets of Rage 2, Sonic 2-3K, and Columns III. Streets of Rage 3 had a bad localization and the western versions are quite expensive now, but the Japanese version is good.
Super Hang-On was a sprite-scaling arcade game so the Genesis version feels a bit slow and stripped down in direct comparison to the original, but it's not a bad home conversion. The best motorcycle racers were the Road Rash games.

Aladdin, great fun especially if you have any nostalgia for the Disney animated movie. There are several Disney games worth playing but don't pay any crazy price for them unless you want to collect and show them off.
MegaMan Willy Wars / Rockman Mega Wars is something you'll be asked to pay a lot for and it won't be worth it, certainly worth playing just not worth hundreds.
If you look into doing the Genesis / Mega Drive region mod and don't mind a switch sticking out its worth doing. Its a little involved but nothing you couldn't manage unless you can't follow a simple guide and hold onto the part of the soldering iron that doesn't get hot. (Genesis / Mega Drive version 2, that you have, mod is very simple) and opens up imports. Search Ebay or Zen Market (proxy buying) and you'll find the Japanese versions of a lot of really big name big $$ ticket items fairly cheap.

I have a decent Genesis collection (40 something real carts and a few Japanese MD games) but some games were so retardedly expensive I just said fuck it and bought cheap repros. MUSHA, Alien Soldier, Wily Wars, etc.

If you don't want to take the system apart or do any region modding, you can use a Game Genie as a pass-through cart to bypass on any Genesis Model 1 or 2. That's how I play Japanese Mega Drive games and repro carts with aftermarket shells.

Hardware-wise, loose power jacks are a fairly common issue with the Model 2. Either from poor solder, constant wear from un/plugging, or both. There's a few different revisions of that model and idk if it affects all of them. Before I fixed mine, I had to coil the wire a certain way and use the weight of the system to keep it on or it would shut off. If you can solder, it's a very easy fix and you can buy a new jack for a couple bucks.
Otherwise if it works good and you don't want to take anything apart, then hey, no need in fixing what isn't broken.

I'm having that issue as well. Video and Power both seem a bit wiggly when I use the plugs, the power needing the cable twisted like you said to get it to power on. I plan on opening it up tomorrow and taking a look. Your post is much appreciated, thanks.

That's exactly why I bought a lower-end Everdrive. The only issue that I've had with it is that I can't save in Wonder Boy In Monster World
