Why the fuck would ANYONE care about the price of GameCube games when you can play the entire library flawlessly on a hacked Wii
Everyone owns a Wii. You own a Wii. There's literally no excuse for not just hacking it, you're being pointlessly obstinate to insist that collectorshit for this console matters whatsoever.
The discs have no value outside of what collectorshits are propping them up to have. If you're thinking logically that is.

A lot of brick stores are trash because they Google the price and see the first listed price (often a high one). I don't know how they are suppose to move product there. This is part of the tactic of some retro stores. They'll have a bunch of high value items on display that, while technically for sale, are mostly window dressing. Its acceptable for them to not sell for a while because it draws people into the store where they'll then buy a lot of the low value items that don't make good showpieces. That said, Simpsons Hit & Run doesn't really qualify.

every hobby industry now is based around one-time or very infrequent purchasers, or whales.
the infrequent purchasers don't mind dropping a lot because they just want a very specific thing, and want it now. The whales are of course whales and will buy anything. There is no middle ground anymore, whether it's cards, action figures, games whatever, it's all only for those two markets.

Yeah that's the thing. If it was Zelda or some SNES/PS1 JRPG I can see it as a window item that is expensive. Simpsons Hit and Run or Spider The Video Game? You'll be waiting a long time if never to move that game.
>>8687049
That's the thing, you can move those games if they are Zelda LttP, Mario World, Mario 64, Suikoden 2, and so on. But pricing Blasto for $79.99? Who are you catching with that? While it probably is Phil Hartman's last work, it isn't exactly a game people constantly talk about on the PS1. Compare it to Crash, Spyro, the PS1 JRPGs, Castlevania, Ridge Racer, Grand Turismo, and many others. ebay seller here.
we choose price based on sold/completed listings.
this means if one single person buys some game for a retard price, everyone else prices their game that much and it can take a long time for the price to normalize again.

also some games at times will only have 1 listing, and an unexpecting customer will think that's the normal price and impulse buy, randomly changing the price to something it shouldn't be.

rent for one location is around 2500/mo, utilities 300 or so on top of that. We cover rent in a day which has allowed us to expand. I wish I could say what the secret is, but it's basically just being the store you wish you had instead of gamestop. Offering good services, maintaining presence and relevance through simple promotion (even craigslist), not sitting on product and keeping product available and affordable. You get the occasional idiot that bumbles in "why is silent hill so much? It's so OLD!" well because if we sold it for you for $7 like you could buy it 20 years ago, someone else would come in and resell it for a $90 profit.

You won't please everyone, /vr/ doesn't buy games so I don't care about pleasing people who obsess over emulators. But you can please a lot of people, someone sells their stack of gamecube games worth $600? Well how much are they looking for? Do they understand that we need to resell things to profit? That your filthy old games are missing materials, may not work without restoration or are just disgusting and require labor to become presentable? Do they think $200 is a fair purchase? How about 250? Would 300 make them happy? Happiness is ultimately worth more than a short term gain, but you can't teach stupid people their copy of Mario they saw sold on the news for 1,000,000 dollars isn't actually worth that.

It gets to the point where if you're decent, fair, people understand the business, they will come just to see you. I'm lucky I can talk to people about SSX3 and they buy it and come in and tell me they have never had that much fun in their lives.

A bunch of retro stores I've been to aren't actually that bad when it comes to prices. Others will charge you $60 for a loose copy of Mario 64 or Final Fantasy IX, a game which was still in print as late as 2018. For anything that's ballooned in value recently, buying flashcarts, ODEs, or even just burning discs is the way to go. At least until the economy crashes and people realize all the collectible shit they were treating like speculative assets aren't as valuable as they thought.

Yep my game boy collection GB/GBC/GBA has gotten to the point where I am rich.
Drill Dozer was like 3 dollars 10 years ago but is now 120 at the cheapest.
I bought a copy of Yu-Gi-Oh Dark Duel Stories for 99 cents, which is now 15 dollars.

Should've invested in games instead of stonks ffs why are the prices so high?

good for you bro, you are apart of the problem. just out of curiosity just exactly how much do you undersell people who bring games into your store? with how hard this gravy train is rolling are you at all concerned that people are going to cut the middle man out (you) and start selling their games online exclusively for maximum profit? why would i sell my game to your store for 10-20 bucks if its worth 50+ dollars online? do you ever feel like you're contributing to the slow suicide of this industry? considering your pawn scum perhaps this question isn't as relevant to someone who owns an actual game store but as we continue to move forward there becomes less and less reason to buy from a physical store as a consumer

The real answer is because there are rich (really upper middle class, not actual rich) onions boys and boomers who will pay. $120 isn't even a lot of money if you aren't poor. Most wagies spend that much on beer per week just to cope with the reality of their existance. I'm not defending any of this, just saying that enough of a market exist so that setting your price that high makes sense for items that don't sell quickly to being with. I'll keep using my hacked wii though, even though I'm actually rich (half jew trust fund baby)

just download the games you want and throw em onto a wii/wii u hard drive and you've got a nearly perfect gamecube experience
even if you want to use an actual gamecube for whatever reason you can just get it modded with an sd card reader for the price of like 2 games
instead of paying a gazillion dollars for games that are just gonna rot away in a decade use the extra cash to buy nice hardware like high quality official gamecube controllers or any accessories that might interest you depending on what system you're on (memory cards on og/wii, game boy player on an original cube, controller usb adapter on wii u, etc...)

Collecting Gamecube games to play them? No.

If you actually want to play games, the gamecube is one of the most easily emulated consoles, and not only that the cheapest, most readily available console of all time has almost full backwards compatibility with it and a loader that practically has 100% compatibility with the entire library. And even then, if you MUST have a purple cube under your TV, you can still hack a gamecube and run loaders on it.

Like if you want to play gamecube, just get dolphin running or go fish a Wii out of your grandma's living room and hack it. No one has to suffer because smelee goes for like 300$ on ebay.

Now however he has gone turbo-jew and instead of honoring the prices of stuff he still has on, he says he will look them up and adjust them based on their current prices, instead of doing the work himself to change his damn prices before hand.
