I am trying to play through pick related but am not liking it much, maybe some of you anons here can help. I am finding this game very frustrating to play. The inverted tank controls are a me problem but god damn is it hard to move in this game with precision. The biggest problem i am having is that with no radar, and a small fov, it is hard for me to see where guards are. This is making achieving grandmaster on levels really difficult. I managed to pull it off on misison 2 and 3, but it was not a fun experience. I looked ahead and some of the items you get for getting grand master on the later levels sound cool, but i have no motivation to play through the game. I also personally prefer to ghost when I play stealth games which isnt really how you are ment to play this game it seems like but thats not the games fault. Is it worth playing the later tenchu games if im not enjoying this one?

Make sure to use the rice ball bait trick: throw the rice to a specific location to lure a guard and then stealth kill him before he actually eats it so you can get multiple uses out of it. Also I'm probably stating the obvious here but use the rooftops as much as possible

And remember grandmaster is a challenge to add replay value, ghosting the entire game is the hardest thing you can do and is supposed to take a lot of practice. I eventually grandmastered all the levels but not on my first playthrough. I'd say just play through once from start to finish to enjoy the story and get familiar with the levels and if you can manage to get top ranks along the way then great but don't fixate on it. No need to get autistic with completionism the first time around.

I like this take, and the second part applies to the Thief series as well.

I understand the appeal of going for the highest difficulty immediately, but if you're having to reset your game constantly, I would reexamine the way you use your free time.

You'll be better at the game after clearing it once anyway

I dunno about you, but I played through 2 right after the first game and enjoyed it far less. It looks better, and has far more gameplay options, but it also felt jankier than the first somehow. The nerfed grapple is one thing, but I found my attacks tended to completely whiff enemies (when I clearly should have hit them) far more than they ever did in 1, or having stealth attacks take ages to end, more often than not leading to me getting caught by other enemies because Rikimaru was popping off and posing for 15 full seconds, and then there’s relatively uninteresting stages, as well as generally annoying stages (kill every enemy, get to the end without being caught) made worse by the aforementioned janky combat and slow stealth kills, and Ayame having some straight up insufferable boss fights due to her short range weapons plus aforementioned janky combat. The complete lack of music outside of boss fights, especially when the first game had a fantastic soundtrack, was a baffling choice too.

Tenchu 1 has some neat stuff like the rice ball, and the idea of being able to grappling hook over everyone. Your right that that I should not go for grandmaster on every level I just dont like having alerts, and i dont find the combat particularly fun (love the bad voice acting though). Thats how i play hitman/theif/splintercell as well though ill just mash restart until I can do it with no alerts.

Just started playing it myself. It's janky but not that much. The problem is that guards can see you too easily, and can see you from beyond the fog so you can't do flashy tricks, which might become a problem later on.

Wrath of Heaven is a lot more "modern" and doesn't have 2's fucktarded scoring system but my problem with it is that it has schizo guards that double take constantly just to fuck with you and the level design in general is pretty linear outside of a few standout levels. 1 has the best levels for the most part.

The stealth kill animation is fantastic but you can't skip it. You're stuck in it until it ends so if an enemy sees you while you're still styling on the guy you just kirisute gomen'd, you're fucked. Doesn't help that some guards stand still looking at one another and they look at random directions with no real pattern so there's a bit too much waiting for a perfect stealth doublekill. But it's still fun so far, no strong opinions yet.

>> No.8680782

>>8679468
1. It's not hard.
2. If you're doing direct combat you're doing it wrong. Avoid fighting as much as possible.
3. Stealth kill everything.
4. Use the roof tops. Jump up. Look down. They have a harder time seeing you from above. The first level is nothing but buildings you can climb onto.
5. Watch guards. Once they turn around run up and kill them. Rinse and repeat.
6. The only tools you need are your sword and your grappling hook.
7. take it slow. Much of the game is sitting watching guards.

Watch a few of how other people do grand master.

>You're stuck in it until it ends so if an enemy sees you while you're still styling on the guy you just kirisute gomen'd, you're fucked

true but you have a long ass time to get away from a guard alerting after they go to ? state probably because of the clunky (imo) controls.

>>8680781
>Doesn't help that some guards stand still looking at one another and they look at random directions with no real pattern
i know what you mean but honesty if you just wait till they turn completely around you should have enough time to run up on them just takes a bit to get used to.

>>8680782
i agree its not that hard but it is frustrating. Also i try to kill as little as possible in general. I did try to look at stuff for the 4th level a little bit to see if there was something I was missing but I did not look at full grandmaster playthroughs I probably should.

>> No.8681097

>>8680825
>i agree its not that hard but it is frustrating. Also i try to kill as little as possible in general.

Well, it shouldn't be frustrating either. You slink in the shadows, go kill a guy, and slink back. The gameplay is biased towards rewarding stealth kills and massacring the entire levels which isn't what Ninjas are supposed to be but whatever. You don't set off alarms when guards discover a dead body too. They just walk over to it, do 360 scan and then return to normal.

Watch the longplayer above on youtube. They're quite sloppy, but still gets grand master in each level. They take it slow and methodically, stopping constantly to stop and watch. The Chi meter shows how alert the closest enemy is too.

Also you have a quick turn, which is useful. You need to crouch and you do a 180 spin roll. Crouching also helps by decreasing how much you can be seen by about 50.

The most fun items are the simple boring ones. The rice you get can be thrown, and guards will walk over to eat it, leaving them open to attack from behind.

More Japan only shenanigans.

1. The game was re-released with the ability to create fan missions and new levels from the NA/EU version.

>"Rittai Ninja Katsugeki Tenchu: Shinobi Gaisen"
>立体忍者活劇 天誅 忍凱旋

2. The devs asked people to send in their best levels. Presumably this meant mailing in memory cards which I presume were mailed back.
3. The best levels were selected and released on its own disc as a budget expansion pack. For some reason, I never see Tenchu fans discuss this.

got all grand masters on all 3 games here
- you can get GM by ignoring everyone in the level while not getting seen. you know, like a Ninja would do. the 1st game is the only one that had that system, for some reason.

- Tenchu 2 as a whole isn't as good as the first, but Wrath of Heaven might work for you, fov issues are gone. but if you need fucking radars on your games you should just stick to modern babby games.

being patient works wonders, crouch rolling is very strong in the first game, and you can poison rice your way to victory as long as you manage to grab it back before enemies eat it.
