Can't believe this was running on a PSX. I mean, I understand it's enhanced by an emulator, but even if it wasn't, it's more than fidelity that which makes something beautiful.

Have a list of comfy games.

The image doesn't really capture the feel of returning to your hometown in Everquest after being out in the world. Especially the western starting zones of Qeynos, Surefall Glade, and Halas. There was nothing like it.

Yeah Bushido Blade, me and a buddy played it bunch when it was still new and went through this weird progression where at first the battles always went quick, then they lasted longer as we got more careful about playing, until finally matches tended to last 10 seconds or 10 minutes where the first one of us to screw up and leave an opening died
I'd highly recommend trying it out if you can find someone to play against, rapier vs. sledgehammer duels are great fun

Greater Faydark was the main auction zone on my server (like EC Tunnel on many servers). So Kelethin (ironically) had a major big city vibe to me, exciting and busy but not cozy at all. By the time I got there I had no issue with staying on platforms (barring lag/fps drops).

Also exotic, incidentally. Qeynos/Surefall/Halas/Erudin felt like a very human-centric medieval sword and sorcery setting, with eastern Antonica having harsher biomes and being more cosmopolitan with the mix of humans and evil races. And then Faydwer had a much more of a fantasy feeling, not just due to the Elven, Dwarven, and Gnomish starting cities but there were just more fantastical creatures roaming in general. Instead of all the wolves, bears, and lions in the Qeynos/Karanas region there were faeries, pixies, drakes (dragonlike and butterfly-like), brownies, basilisks, and so on.

I guess it seems obvious that each zone would have a different character and neighboring zones ought to have regional similarities, but there was something about how it worked in EQ that was different from games like WoW. Nothing in WoW ever gave me the feel of being in an exotic location, at least not in the relative sense the way Faydwer felt more exotic than Qeynos and places like Thurgadin feels even more remote and alien.

Very much in the minority here, but my love for ME1 is all about the Mako. It was so relaxing to just cruise around huge empty planets with your bros in a giant tank, occasionally doing goofy shit like flipping off of mountain sides or chasing spacemonkeyfrogs.
