Hello, /vr/. I am the organizer for /v/'s latest Super Mario World collab hack. The FINAL BASEROM is finally here, and it includes many tweaks, fixes, and the last few bosses. Below is a NEW version of the final build - not to be confused with the one posted in the previous thread, the current build now contains even more fixes.

This thread is for discussing testing and bugfixes before the hack is released. No more edits will be considered unless it prevents 100% completion. The hack is set to release on March 10. The last things needed before a v1.0 release are finishing some cutscenes and the credits, and fixing any glitches found during testing. After the hack releases, there will also be a future v1.1 update that contains the extra character skins and a boss rush level.

There is a known bug that's still present in the finalfinalbeta that causes certain message boxes to randomly give you 5 dragon coins. It may have something to do with storing to $13BF - the level number - so the game ends up loading the dragon coins you picked up from whatever level it's loading the message from. This doesn't make the hack impossible to beat, and it will be fixed by release. For now, I've remapped some message boxes as a temporary workaround.

The credits are currently being worked on. If you'd like to be credited with a name, you can ask here in the thread or via email. I might be slow with replies, as I'm feeling under the weather again, but I'll try to keep up when I can.

I do like the level but its very tiresome to see the same faces win the same contests run by the same judges, compared to the other entries I would of ranked it around 20th or maybe around the 15th-19th area. IMO Metallic Metropolis should of got 1st.

Also, how do they define vanilla nowadays? The graphic edits being all focused around SMW assets I get but seeing stuff like how Idol's level had faster conveybelts and faster chainsaws had me wondering if stuff like disassembly sprites were allowed, the possibility for cool levels are pretty endless.

I'd enter the next one, seeing as I still want to get my smw whistle wet but I can't help but feel like smwc is kinda gatekept.

As the one who just mentioned it: I agree. I feel like it's something you would find about only if you are actually going for it, so it would be funny to reward the player instead. It's up to OP to decide.

Also, I'm planning to upload a folder with all the small .mwl fixes that were not fixed by OP. It's incredibly minor and easy to import so I hope it doesn't bother him. I'm not planning to nerf levels if anons don't want me to.

Also, I've posted an anonfiles link the spreadsheet which contains some small fixes and a background fix for Tendie Tower. If these fixes get added then that's all I think that needs to be fixed before release.

Beating Bowser's Castle brings you back to the overworld instead of the SMW credits, and it will count has having beaten that level. In the cancer build Boss Rush was open and lead to a modified version of Magma Diver with the original background and Yoshi's house with two red doors. That level is still present in the hack but with 0 modifications, so it has been dummied out in the final build so currently it leads to a level you can't enter.
120 will happen if Boss Rush gets finished.

We don't "Need" anything. Vanilla SMW only supports 77 level events, and we've used 76. If we use one more then the Boss Rush won't have an event or exit, so it needs to be reserved.

while waiting for boss rush, a few more things:
when snifit bullets get deflected, they can still harm you while falling, unlike in smb2 (where they become harmless). I mentioned this on my testing doc awhile back. not sure if that's an easy fix or not.
secondly, I was told that the wizard boss now requires a disco shell to finish the fight, but that doesn't seem to be the case?
also, an inaccessible star appears by Yoshi's house in the 100% file. is that a completion thing? does it lead to the credits? just wondering.

The Snifit thing most likely happened when the original sprite was being made and it was never fixed, or it might be set up like that in the asm.
The Wizard boss can still be hit by a regular koopa shell. I think the boss difficulty is good enough; it shouldn't be edited any further.
The star got added in the final final build. When I finished playtesting the final build I had already triggered every event so even it I added a goal orb to Yoshi's house I wasn't able to walk to the star. I feel like the purpose of it is to warp to the special world immediately without having to find a star and visit the star world before you arrive at the special world.

in the last thread, I was told you needed a disco shell to score the final hit. I thought that was an interesting twist on it, although you could do it either way. I'm neutral on it.

the fight is pretty good as it stands. My idea was to add more increments to shot speed, so it starts out normal, then gets faster after each hit, instead of jumping from slow to fast. I also thought it would be cool if the first shell reflect was slower/normal speed, then the rest can be fast (although this isn't as important). finally, I'd like to prevent the sprite from teleporting inside tiles (it should still be able to appear on the border).
none of this is necessary, the current build works, this is just for polish. hopefully I'll be able to add at least increments for v1.1.

Best case scenario is that someone wants to edit that boss after the v1.0 release so he can email it to OP, but since the rest has been set in stone it feels like a minor change in comparison to what's left (Boss Rush and the new playable characters respectively). It was Booster Cavern and Art Attack. I actually finished them some time ago. If you want to see them, I patched them into the latest baserom, along with a few edits for the rooms which didn't make it in. Art Attack's room would've been my favorite if it was actually in the hack. If you're really bored, there's also the "all edits" rom, so you can see how cancerous this level would have been if I had finished it. I picked a new song because of the new level length.

My review of The Grand /v/inale:
>Cosmic Clone room
A fun way to start. You have to rush to the end to avoid the cosmic clones that chase you, as well as the bombs thrown by the chads. It's easy to skip much of it by bouncing off the chads in the right way.
>Disco shell room
Pretty cool room where you bounce off disco shells. Looks very tricky at first, but I beat it by constantly bouncing off their right sides. The hardest part is getting into the pipe at the end.
>Polandball room
A slow autoscroller where you carry a Polandball while avoiding a bunch of shit. I don't like how slow it is, and dodging the projectiles at the end is very tight.
>Item room
A puzzle room where you teleport items to your hands. It's my favorite room, and it's the only one that uses P-switches, so if OP restores the P-switch music, I hope he keeps it disabled here.
>Mini room
A crazy clusterfuck. You have to carry Mini around while avoiding the nets, bouncing munchers, Hat Kid, AND the fucking lazor desus at the end. It's possible to duplicate the ON/OFF blocks by throwing Mini into them, but that's a minor issue that I don't consider worth fixing.
>Gravity Gun room
This and the Mini room are the most likely to filter people. It's a lot of trial and error to solve its puzzles, and all the nets certainly don't help. Interesting concept, though. I'd like to see it expanded upon if /v/orld 4 happens.
>Miyamoto room
I enjoy the /v/orld 2 reference. A relatively easy, yet fun little room.
>Autojump room
A good way to end it. You're constantly alternating between spinjumps and normal jumps, dealing with interesting setups. The true challenge starts at the moving platform, where you have to deal with chainsaws and bullets coming in from the sides, all while having to hit the ON/OFF blocks. It's fun for how chaotic it is, but getting the capes from the last room completely trivializes it. If a powerup filter doesn't get added and you want a proper final challenge, don't bring any capes.

I'm excited for it to finally come out, since we've been in the playtesting phase longer than we were in the level creation phase, so there isn't much new to discuss. The actual cutscene composition is great.
The sprite animation is a bit goofy looking. If you wanted I could try make some replacement sprites if you gave the max amount of animation frames and max amount of tileset resolution, (8x8, 16x16, 32x32 etc)

Note that there is a small problem with this: when you get a Game Over, it will remove the "all dragon coin collected" flag for all levels. That is the original behavior of Super Mario World. But if you use this patch with sram_plus, you may not want this to happens.
I found a quick way to remove it. Insert this hex edit with asar:
