Daily reminder that the best way to play retro games in this day and age are flashcarts with original hardware.

You want to pay hundreds for 30 year old games? You want to play on some cheap chinese made retro handheld shit? Even with FPGAs it's still not the real thing.

Pro tip: if you actually play retro games then spend your hard earned money on REAL hardware and a flashcart. It's all the way better. You'll never go back.

Wow, I have a legit flashcart for all the systems in your picture, except my SD2SNES is for a North American SNES.
I have a working Sega CD and CD-Rom2 with my PC engine, but I prefer playing CD games on my MiSTer over the real thing. I don't know. I'll have to try playing cd rom games on my hardware again, but I remember really liking the flexibility I got with the MiSTer I built.

>> No.8678654

I still need to get a newer flash cart for GBA. I have one, but it's really old and I'm sure needs a new battery already. The Mega Everdrive I got has needed a new battery ever since I got it.

sounds like a good take. I wonder how long it will take for all the fags to pop in and make a cope to justify paying hundreds dollarydoos to play a classic you could easily play for free via emulation.

It is unfortunate I couldn't afford the expensive Ukrainian flashcarts and went for cheaper Russian-enabling Chinese bootlegs, but I put that squarely on the employers of the US not offering a living wage.

I've got one for my Genesis and love it. Considered getting one for NES/SNES but now I'm just gonna use my Wii to emulate on my CRTS.

Most retro games aren't that expensive.

Buy a game for $10-20 and then spend some time with it. Several hours at least. Don't buy more than a couple of games a month.

Or buy a flash cart. I don't really care.
I emulate.

Same anon here. If you are in the States, KRIKzz confirmed to me that any Everdrives listed on Amazon are already in the US and ready for shipment, that is where I have my Genesis X7 coming from. StoneAgeGamer still has some stock, since I wasn’t getting a reply from KRIKzz regarding his situation I panic bought a X5 from SAG. I’m betting on both ends what you see available is what you get, so now would be a good time to buy.

Original hardware definitely feels better than emulation, but I have to agree that the MiSTer I built feels just as good, and I’m not such a purist I need to use original hardware with each system— I much prefer being able to pick a favourite controller and use it across all systems it makes sense on. In my case, that means:
>Saturn controller for most systems
>RAP.N for arcade games
>DualSense for PS1 and SNES

I can use the same TV and the same controller while emulating instead of using an original console. To me, I don't experience a difference.
For handhelds, the look and feel is very hard to reproduce by emulation, even on an emulation handheld.

Filters and shaders like that tend to only look good when you have an extreme increase of resolution, like on the Analogue Pocket. Otherwise you can't reproduce the smaller details of a low resolution pixel grid.

>> No.8679921

>>8679916
wrong, because it's such a low resolution already, 2x to be exact, a simple grid is all it needs, native is obviously the best but 2x is still good with a simple grid

>> No.8679930

>>8679921
If you try to replicate the screen door effect on a 2x display the margins between pixels becomes way too large. It's definitely not how it's supposed to look.
I'm not sure why it matters to you though, since you already said you don't like the look of the original display. I'm starting to think it's not that you simply prefer more modern displays, but that you outright don't know what they're meant to look like.

>> No.8679931

>>8679930
>the margins between pixels becomes way too large
sure, if you use a large screen
these screens are small

>> No.8679936

>>8679931
It's proportional to the pixels either way, which is why you need a major increase in resolution, and why premium hardware bothers to include this sort of high resolution display.

Good thread to ask. The KrzysioCart is possibly one of the only flash carts that can work on a famiclone, but its mapper compatibility is quite limited, more priority was put in to support random multicart mappers than supporting a wide range of games. I know the N8 Pro does not work on famiclones, and I am curious if there are any other flash carts that can work on them while supporting more games.
