She’s a cutie and one of my favorite game characters when they pull her off right. Unfortunately she’s brought down by some pretty bad portrayals as well (odyssey, sunshine…). She can be a surprisingly great character sometimes though. The comics and rpgs especially always did a great job with her. Not that she has to be the common sense character like in those, sometimes her being comically girly-girl is really fun too.

Growing up wanting to fuck Peach has affected my sexual development and fetishes more than any other fictional character, and possibly more than any real woman.

I used to have the impression they were together since it was very, very, very strongly hinted at. I think Super Paper Mario was when it was established they are just friends, that’s one of the only times (if not the only time) their relationship was explicitly stated. And in Color Splash Peach says “And this is my…friend, Mario.” or something like that, near the very start of the game.

Might be partly just cause I always assumed they were together when I was a kid, but I think the “they’re just friends” angle is stupid. Nobody cares about romantic tension in fucking Mario series and it makes their main character look like a pussy (not because she “owes” sex or whatever, but because they obviously like each other and he doesnt go for it. It’s lame.)

That said Mario continuity is so flexible and in so much flux that they can kind of be whatever they need to be to suit whatever game. Not actually being a couple seems to be one of the few consistent things though, but that doesn’t have to retroactively apply to the /vr/ games.

While this is true, I think by Mario standards those are still “small” enough that those series are generally only continued for as long as the devs want to work on them. NSMB and Mario Party sell way better so those will keep being made no matter what, but stuff like Wario Land or M&L end when there isnt a team that wants to work on them around, sequels wont be pushed for by higher up.

Rather than a sequel I would be happy if they actually incorporated any of Peach’s abilities from that game. Despite how slow the game is, she’s more fun to control there than in any other platformer she’s in, it’d be nice if she had that stuff and was just playable in a new 2D Mario.

Despite being made as a game for little girl casuals who dont play games yet, Peach’s moveset would today probably be considered too complex for Nintendo to put her in a 2D Mario game.

Well "Toadstool" is a very little flattering term for mushrooms, when using it you pretty much say that these things are just good enough for a toad to sit on -i.e. worthless. So it could well be that that as the maximum of that opinion that word is then used for one of the most well known deadly mushrooms, which for that reason very few would cry for if it got extinct - the death cap.
But as far as i know toadstool simply is a negatively connotated term for mushrooms in general whereas mushroom is neutral. A person who uses that word probably is not a regular mushroom enjoyer.

Remember when everyone acted like the Sonic movie was going to be a three-ring circus that would go down in history as an epic cataclysm, and then it was fine and everyone liked it? Nintendo is supervising production with an iron fist and none of Illumination's usual quirks will be allowed to damage the IP (so the infamous greentext will end up looking starkly inaccurate). The studio was in fact chosen because it was the biggest one that was willing to relinquish total creative control over the project, not because Nintendo wanted Minions with Goombas and Koopa Troopas. For all the flak Nintendo gets for playing it safe, the cast is also extremely bold and risky. I think it's going to be okay.

The scene in Wreck-It Ralph 1 where Bowser appeared was redone multiple times because Bowser wasn't big enough* or didn't hold his fucking cup of coffee in a way Nintendo thought was appropriate for him. Charlie Day went into how fucking serious Nintendo was being about the production before he got cut off by the jackass host on one of the Jimmy talk shows. I'm cautiously optimistic. This movie has Donkey Kong, CRANKY Kong, and fucking Foreman Spike in it. It's going to be worth a watch. I can't imagine it being bad enough that I'd regret that, as much as Seth Rogen DK makes me want to be dead.

*Nintendo, Capcom, and Sega each wanted Bowser, M. Bison, and Dr. Eggman to be the largest, tallest video game character in the support group, and each one would point out how big their character is when they'd look at revisions of the scene and notice another company's villain was the biggest present.
