The CRT is recapped, including the audio portion, parts of the amplifier circuitry were replaced with better parts and the speaker drivers themselves are new and much better installed than the old ones.
It sounds great, stereo and built in analog volume control right in the front, I'd take it over cheap stereo speakers any day.

After I move and have more space for the setup, the Sony VGA CRT will get dedicated speakers too, probably refurbished and modded old speakers like >>8701636.

I don't really know any guides from the top of my head, but you should look up how people DIY build new speakers on YouTube, gives you a basic idea, since modifying itself isn't that different if you know how to build some from the ground up with ready made parts.
I usually just replace crappy or old amp IC's, capacitors and pots with newer or better ones, use better power supplies, etc, rarely I redo the insides entirely or modify the actual design. The speakers themselves usually have had good drivers, so I haven't touched those in most cases, just added some fireproof stuffing to acoustically expand the size of the speaker.

Picked this up today, 20 inch Sony trinitron kv-20fs100. Came with an av splitter that runs s-video, a roku, a DVD player, and remotes for everything including the tv. $10 Craigslist find, was some 70 year old boomer.
