I prefer HD co-op as it's ultimately a more challenging experience, GMOTA becomes a mess really quick. I think if you played 4 player co-op it'd get really chaotic and probably too easy.

Yesterday in Odamex I stumbled upon a survival coop server with this mod: https://doomwiki.org/wiki/DsDoom_3
I was pleasantly surprised. Quite faithful recreation of Doom 3 arsenal & beastiary. You can even shoot down projectiles, just like original. And it's Boom compatible!

Otherwise, what worked with D4V might be the balance of new enemies replacing some classic enemies and the changed returning enemies, like the Hellrazer, Cybermancubus and Gore Nest over the Chaingunner, Arachnotron and Pain Elemental
Eternal has a lot of new enemies that come from a different style of gameplay while enemies like the Arachnotron and Pain Elemental would be rearranged versions of their vanilla counterparts
Some enemies like the Carcass might be hard to remake under Decorate
It would be cool seeing TC's that have both Eternal inspired enemies as new enemies and rearranges some base Doom roster enemies to have some new elements

Doom is quite a lot easier to map for in most ways compared to most of those games.

Half-Life had a gargantuan modding scene overflowing with mods, maps, conversions, everything you can imagine, and it still trucks along because A), it's fun, just like Doom, and B), it still hss pretty good modding tools which are reasonably easy to use.

When it comes to Build engine games, that's another story. It's capable and its popular games still have their little scenes, but mapping for tjose games is inherently much less straightforward than Doom, Quake, or Half-Life, and the mapping tools have barely developed in 20 years due to unmedicated aspergers. Doesn't help that advanced sourceports like EDuke32 breaks all its mods every time there's a new version, forcing modders to pack in the necessary version of the port to make it work.

Yeah, Team Fortress was a Quake mod first- Robin Walker and the other Q/QWTF devs were some of the first people hired on by Valve after Gabe and co. formed the company. Counter-Strike was created by one of the guys who worked on Action Quake 2. It's no surprise that Valve licensed id Tech to make GoldSrc and stuck so close to the original engine for so long.

This probably won't be of much interest to many people here, but I wanted to share it somewhere anyway. The copy of Project Brutality I made some small changes to. I set the link to last three days.

-Bullet tracers have been removed from almost all ballistic weapons. Dragon's Breath rounds were only sped up, since the tracers are how they do damage.
-Doomguy has been silenced when flipping off enemies to go along with the menu option that disables his taunts and weapon pickup lines. It won't alert enemies anymore, but the tracer that offends Cyberdemons was left in, and that will alert anything it hits. I imagine you can also use it to trigger shootable switches.
-An appropriate amount of screen shake when firing has been added to the weapons that didn't have it for additional weapon feedback. Also to the Demon Tech Rifle's reload animation.
-Audio channels for firing sounds were changed for most weapons so the sound doesn't cut out when switching weapons.

If anyone does play this, I highly recommend going into gameplay settings and turning both recoil options down to 30 or 35. Berserk lessens recoil, but it's still way too high by default. Also disable rescued Marine chatter.

Reposting my project's copypasta. I've changed the rules to only allow content made for Doom to make it a bit less wide open. If you don't know what this is, the project will run all year long and accept basically anything. There's no central theme or even quality control, so if you're new or experienced this project will let you show off your creativity.

The /vr/ Mondo Project is a rip-off of the Doomworld Mega Project series. The purpose of the project to encourage creativity and bolster /vr/ as a mapping and modding community.
RULES:
- Submit as times as you would like by the end of 2022.
- Any kind of playable custom content for any DOOM IWAD is considered a valid submission. Maps, gameplay mods, etc.
- Updates are allowed but will be considered new submissions.
- Include the phrase "/vr/ Mondo Project" with your submission so that I can find them all.

The submissions will be compiled into a zip with each submission given its own folder. Please include a txt with some information about how to play your submission and credits for any resources used.
I will be reposting this at the start of each new month. Please do not add this project to the news post.

I'm not that guy, but I'm not sure how I'd feel about Imps being that strong either, at least not how they've been used in Doom maps this whole time. That would be something that would need to be established on day one of a game's development and build encounters and maps around that. Though, thinking about it, Project MSX turns pretty much everyone into a glass cannon and it works out pretty well. But I think the secret there is you have a recharging shield to act as a buffer, and the extra defense when you're doing high risk shit like using full charge grenade throws or super punches. Project MSX is a good fucking mod.

I do like glass cannon enemies in general though. Like the Revenant and Chaingunner. Along with the Cultists from Blood, though it's a shame the rest of the monster roster is pretty wimpy in comparison.

I finally beat all 4 episodes with pistol start on Ultra-Violence before going into Doom 2 and it honestly caught me by surprise. I'd look at what makes the cultists threatening first: Their reaction times can occasionally be lightning fast on a hitscan with high accuracy, and they can throw dynamite to either catch you out or punish you for taking cover. Most other enemies move too slow to reach either threat level, and many have too many quirks that counterplay them hard (like ducking vs stone gargoyles)

Melee enemies need to be faster, and projectile based ones need their projectiles to be faster. AI quirks (like gargoyles refusing to descend sometimes) need to be addressed and ironed out. I would honestly say the hardest one might actually be the zombies, if only because of how abysmally low ammo is on the first few maps.

That all said, if you wanted to really rework and rebalance the blood roster to be more evenly balanced, I'd actually argue that might involve a small nerf to the cultists as well, maybe imposing a slightly longer guaranteed delay before they can fire. Part of what makes encounter balance is prioritizing targets, which was the idea in Blood: Take out the cultists asap while dodging everything else, then focus on them. If you make it harder to kite/ignore the other threats, the cultists in their current state could be a bit too much. It would definitely be something to playtest and compare in various encounters.

Weapon swapping to skip reloads is not complex either. In the end you end up with a firearm rotation routine and 2 cooldowns to manage, and once you get that it's more like what modern MMO's do, things get very braindead and all you have to concentrate on is dodging.

I getcha, the game actually pissed me off a lot for similar reasons when I first played it. Aside from the stuff you mentioned, there are a few things that are a bit more universal and make WD feel a lot more fair, things cultist rotation speed being considerably slower than you can strafe them at a distance, the Z axis affecting their aiming, stuff like that. Its basically a difficulty thats centered around how well you understand the game itself. That said it still doesn't get into any of the bullshit difficulty memes, its just... harder than the other difficulties.

I think Keep mod has all the same stuff Drake mod has, but Keep thus far only has one map to its name, egyptoacula, and it doesn't use QTest. 1. is there a way to make hud elements bigger when i use 1080p resolution?
2. no matter how high i set the horizontal fov, the vertical fov feels super cramped. is it just fucked like that, or can it be fixed?
3. how does difficulty scale? i'm fine with more enemies and higher damage enemies, but don't want hp bloat or resource starvation. actual numbers for the modifiers on each difficulty would be appreciated if you have them.

Difficulty adds more enemies and makes them hurt more iirc. I don't think it gives them more health, but could be misremembering. Enemies health values could be changed per enemy, so it's possible some get swapped out with tougher ones. It might change the amount of ammo you find too, but I can't remember an instance where that stood out (I remember the flag for easy medium hard in the editor anyway).

I just run a couple machines that label, fill, and lid cans, which is boring but easy and decent money. It's more interesting (but also more unhealthy and harder) to actually mix the paint. Tons of OT though. I get time and a half, but you never work a 40 hour shift. This goes for basically any factory/production job btw.
