So is it safe to assume Zeros redesign in MMZ was simply how the art directors imagined him and that him and X retroactively always looked like even back in the X series?

Because its the only fucking reason I can think of why Inti didn't go with the raw kino that would had been giving Omega his original sprites in the final fight of Z3

>Original script of Z1 called for X to have lost his mind and ruling Neo Arcadia instead of Copy X
>Likely this would have ended with Zero giving his old friend a mercy kill
>with the irony being that Wilys ultimate killing robot eventually triumps over Lights creation but also goes past his original programming and shoulders the responsibility of protecting the world

He won

>The Maverick Virus leads to the creation of the Cyber Elves and the Elf Wars, and Zero is directly linkd to all the horrible shit with Omega

Wily fucked up the world for hundreds and hundreds of years

X's original body appears at the end of Zero 2, so yeah it was always a retroactive re-imagining

>Maverick hunters essentially function as a judge/jury/executioner type deal who treat any transgression with extreme force and work entirerly under the whims of humanity
>Ripe for a morally grey conflict
>Actually most of them just do it because of a computer virus lmao
>Oh yeah this virus is somehow airborne and appearantly propogates over time like a regular virus
>And uh maybe Wily made it or it merged with Sigma
>Oh hey, we found another type of software called cyberelves which can curb any potential Maverick behavior by detecting potential anomalies
>Essentially putting reploids under a police state-tier mind control
>this shit >>8666956 which would had vindicated Wily but they ended up chickening out on the original X plotline

There is some potential for raw fucking kino in X/Zero lore but holy shit does it need an editor or a full rewrite of some kind - For every good idea they just fuck around with five dumb ones or completely drop the ball with the execution

Help a lorelet out, why would Wily need to create the Maverick Virus? If he just wants a robot capable of destroying Mega Man, Zero was always up to the task, so hell, why even bother making him a reploid in the first place?

My own headcannon is that Wily eventually wanted to kill Light and decided to make a robot capable of ignoring the first law of robotics to accomplish this - Hence why he made Zero a reploid. The Maverick virus was an "insurance" to turn Zero into a bloodthirsty killer since Wily would be unable to control the programming of a robot with free will otherwise.

Actually most reploids have embedded uplink/downlink systems in their heads. Those that don't use apparatus that captures wireless signals so they can receive orders and whatnot (like Maverick Hunter navigator girls) so it's not far fetched to assume that the virus is basically hacking reploids much like a cellphone hijacking virus.

nigga how the fuck are you ruling the world if you've created a virus that turns every robot insane and tries to kill you?

Zero himself couldn't be directed, and shit, I still don't know quite how he got over the Maverick Virus. We see him in X4 when Sigma basically punches the virus out of him - So what, had Zero basically just been roaming the world for the past 100 years and Sigma was the first guy to find him? Dr.Cain certainly didn't seem to know about it when he first discovered X, but you'd think somebody would had noticed Zero running around indiscriminately killing people the last few decades. Doesn't the game bring up something inane about reploids developing Maverick Virus antibodies at some point? Did Wily plan on that too?

>nigga how the fuck are you ruling the world if you've created a virus that turns every robot insane and tries to kill you?
Wily died long before he'd see the virus in action. He quite simply didn't know what he was fucking with when he started tinkering with the Evil Energy. He wanted immediate results but didn't expect his typical megalomaniac scheming to actually ruin the world for the next 200+ years.
That's all there is to it - human error.

Zero had only just woken up at that point. He'd been in a stasis like X had for the last century, though he woke up later.
Given that Classic is fairly light on character development given how lighthearted it is, and because we'll never know what the conclusion that leads into X is, it's kind of impossible to say what exactly Wily wanted to achieve. He created Roboenza which essentially does the same thing, planning to then extort the world for the antidote, so maybe it was a similar idea. Maybe he was planning on it being an insurance policy: 'if you defeat my super cool warrior robot, his dead man switch will unleash a horrific virus that will make every other robot go insane.' Maybe, like Light, he knew he'd be dead before Zero was ready and the entire purpose of Zero and the Maverick Virus was to do what Wily never could in life, and destroy Light's dream and legacy even after death just to spite him.
One explanation I recall is that the Maverick Virus is actually a digital copy of Wily's conscience which is how reploids like Serges and Issac, who seem to be resurrections of Wily, manage to exist and how he's implied to be involved in X5, though I can't remember if that was a purely fanon explanation or something that actually came from behind-the-scenes.

I don't see why that would be the case. Both Zero and X get upgraded throughout the X series and the elf wars happen far away enough into the future that by the time the copy Zero body was made that might as well have been how the regular Zero looked like at the time. An art style only change that means nothing in-universe would be weird.

Since the games are canon, I think that the reploids went into some changes. I wish it had a more cohesive art direction though.

>Mavericks are reploids who rebel out of their human-tier free will out of a myriad of potential valid reasons; Dissavowing their servitude, considering humanity inferior, or simply wishing to have nothing to do with the world
Some reploids have nothing to do with the world for a while like Shining Firefly Volt Kraken or Gaudile. Former cases are about him getting killed is because he was going maverick and wanted to fight while he wasn't infected enough and him getting infected even through he was left alone when he quit being a maverick hunter. Latter joins up after getting help from X. It's really only considering humanity inferior that would have them put on surveillance.
>Maverick hunters essentially function as a judge/jury/executioner type deal who treat any transgression with extreme force and work entirerly under the whims of humanity
They only execute mavericks that are deemed to be a threat to humanity. A lot of times they're told to stand down but either they're too far gone or they want to fight instead.

Roboenza is just a silly play on "computer virus" where robots get sick with cliche human symptoms they shouldn't normally have, like fever and sneezing, and some of them end up malfunctioning as a result. It's pretty much something out of the Mega Man cartoon from the 90s, right down to the ironic ending with Wily himself catching a cold because he was too busy ruining others' health to pay attention to his own.

I love Mega Man Zero so much it's unreal. This platformer quadrilogy is absolutely on par with SMB1-World, maybe even better. Also the plot is amazing, it even has a compelling ending unlike other MM subseries

It's pretty inconsistent. The Telos OST interviews state that they came up with designs for Omega that closer resembled MMX's Zero and even mentioned those square shoulders as appearing in some of them, but they ultimately went with the darker pallette and decided it was just an artstyle choice. Conversely, Vile, Agile, Colonel, and Bit's cameos are all done in their original artstyle, as are the Mets.

Also, as a fun aside in the same interview that shot down Zero killing the classic cast Inafune also claimed Omega to be the original Zero, not MMZ's Zero.

Phoenix Magnion's attack has X characters rendered in their normal X-style proportions, and Zero/X/CopyX/Omega all clearly have Z-style proportions, so my guess is X/Zero had many upgrades to their bodies pre-Zero sealing away his body for research (before Weil makes Omega and starts the Elf Wars)

>> No.8671303

What's funny is if you look closely, Omega's buster is edited to look like it's part of his arm, instead of a gun he's carrying; which shows he really is meant to be the original. So that more or less nails down that it's just an art style shift and not Zero's body being different.
