my favorite parts were probably necropolis and talking to/fighting the master. i also liked exploring the world in early game, coming across places like shady sands and junktown with atmospheric music and memorable npc interactions
honestly, the one part of the game i didn't like was the bos. it felt like the writing there was way more trope-ridden than the rest of the game

Unironically, my favorite part is doing caravan escorts. Caravans are an integral part of economy in Fallout lore and yet only 1 and 2 really lets you be a part of it, not even NV. Aside from that, I love getting power armor because you're essentially a god at that point, not even Deathclaws can seriously harm you without a crit.

You're baiting but I have to admit 3 is my favorite even though I really enjoy 1 and 2. I have probably spent more time playing 3 than any other single player video game. There's not even that much to do in it, I just love the atmosphere and walking around the wasteland shooting mutants and looting shit.

My favourite part was finding out about the Brotherhood of Steel, gaining entrance into their bunker and getting Power Armor training. I've been a sucker for the BoS ever since, despite how differently they are portrayed in other games.
The part I remember the most, though, is killing the Khans early and selling all their equipment for caps. Coming from Junktown with Dogmeat and a submachinegun helped me a lot.

Spoilers for FO1 in this blog post.
I stopped playing FO1 close to what I presume is the end, and I feel bad I never finished it. I was in the bottom of the cathedral, and there's a bunch of mutants and monsters down there, notably higher difficulty than other places I've been. There's a hallway where I have to make a left turn to go north, and a mutant (or maybe two) at the far end around the corner. If I step around the corner, he blows me away in a couple rounds. I haven't found any item or weapon that lets me get close to him or finish him first. I don't feel like grinding or combing the game world for some extra piece of gear just to get past him.
So, it's the only game that I've never finished because I just hit a wall. I'm sure I missed things (I don't have power armor and feel like I should have had it before now) and am maybe doing something out of order, but I don't recall having a quest hook to go anywhere else. It was a fairly neat experience, even though combat was slow as shit and could be pretty annoying getting shot in the back by your own allies, but I'm a little bummed I missed out on the ending. Very unique, and had that old-school "let the player put their hand on the stove" approach.
FO3 was very unpolished and tedious. I dropped it shortly after persevering through that god-awful alien abduction DLC thing.
Are FO2 and NV really the best ones?

FO1 is the shortest and tightest of the 3, if you burnt out on that I doubt you'd finish (or enjoy) FO2. NV fits between both, though it's just as unpolished as FO3, and a big part of the appeal is its continuation of the FO1/FO2 storylines and characters.

Is that Harvester? I wouldn't say I burned out on 1 exactly, since I was mostly enjoying it up until the end. But the gameplay wasn't the selling point, and the idea that I'd have to go re-explore areas or grind to move on killed my enthusiasm, since both options felt like they'd be tedious and open-ended, since I wasn't sure what I would need to achieve in order to get past the guy.
>just as unpolished
I'm really sensitive to coherency of design and quality of writing in games, so I probably won't play it then. I didn't know it was a continuation of FO1/2 though, I'll keep that in mind if I try FO2 and like it. Thanks for the info.
>>8666598
I never used any chems, but this does seem the place. Not much harm in trying to use some in this case, I'm sure it would be fast to go pick some up from somewhere and give it a try. Thank you.

I think I got destroyed my first playthrough too. It's also easy to forget that you really need to read the manual for these games before/during play, which I kind of forgot my first time.
Give it another shot if you're interested, since a second playthrough with the benefit of the mistakes you made the first time will be much better.

As for OP and my favourite part, it's so hard to call. There were a lot of great moments. I actually really liked Junktown for some reason. It was fun scrounging for weapons and finding your first companion as you were still putting things together early on.

Which is wierd because I'm pretty sure Todd himself doesn't hate them, he had nothing to say but positivie things about New Vegas on release and despite how much of a bridge burner he tends to be, Chris has never said anything bad about Todd. I wonder who at Bethesda hates old Fallout.

>> No.8670306

I wonder why? Surely there's little harm in these games having a following considering how niche they would be by now. I doubt any normie is going to try it and then look down upon the new games.
Maybe it's a personal thing between the developers and publishers?

I think skyrim was good, but the fallouts are just there to rake in money. If you look at the steam stats, most buyers only play the game for a very short amount of time, thus the games being super frontloaded and unfinished. So, they know they only have to focus on the first hour or two in order to rake in the retardbucks.

But that's what I'm saying. Fallout 1 & 2 might be great games, and have more love and attention put into them than FO3 or 4 but if you put 95% of gamers in front of them, they'd just say it looks old and ugly and is too weird and then they'd go back to Fallout 4. It's not like these games are a threat of any kind to the new market.
