Again, a lot of DOOM 2 maps in HDest are only bearable via sequence breaking for us, but that's honestly a huge part of the fun. Blowing up a sector wall never gets old and neither does a cybie doing the same to your cover.

Depends on what type of map you want to make. I would just play and get inspiration from many different type of maps. You could also try looking into a map you enjoy and figure out why/what you like about it and things you think it could improve upon. Maybe check some reviews to see what people have to say about it, see if you agree with them or not. There are too many maps to just point out a few, but if you want a start you could start looking into the classics.

ive never had huge issues with any DOOM ports on linux, other than DOOM64 having really bad mouse lag unless i used a very old proton version (4.2-9),and BLOOD fresh supply has the same issue (fixed with same proton version).
though both games have native alternatives that work perfect (raze and GZdoom respectively).
besides that, ive has little issues playing just about any mainstream boomershooter.
though i will say that using native sourceports is preferable for their better features and guaranteed linux compatibility (basically all sourceports support linux)

Something i think is underrated in new Doom content is people trying to come up with ideas for new demons and enemies
Because it's obviously present in classic Doom for years and with the power of modding but Eternal's modding is not on the same level
Even if most of these stuff ends up as art or written ideas, it comes off as "theoretical" guessing on how "toy with the sandbox" or something
Because old Doom and Quake modding have reached great lengths at mimicking modern Doom, i wonder if someone will try to recreate some of these unofficial concepts into something interactive, even if not Eternal itself

If you don't have a PC, the official ports of classic Doom and Doom 64 are very good in just quality, they're very accurate in behavior, classic being more accurate than any previous console port by far.

You can't play whatever .wad you like with the originals, but on the other hand they give you the expansions for free, and a whole pile of good community mapsets, which they're still curating, so every few months there'll be more levels.
Can't rebind your controls, which is lame, but the binds you have are adequate. Turning off V-sync in the options is a must, as it gives you bad input lag.
If you like using gyro for turning, it supports that, some people find it an ok substitute for not having a mouse (never tried).

Doom 64 comes with its original levels, obviously, and a new bonus episode which is pretty good. This port lets you bind your controls however the fuck you want, like God intended, and also gives you some options, like playing with green blood (if you're a nostalgic Jap), or selecting between multiple different filters, including none at all, if you're a sharp pixel enjoyer.

If you DO have a PC, I would say that at least the classic port is a waste of, uh, I think it was 5bux for each, so not the biggest blunder in the world, but at least you supported a good product for console-onlys.

So, some textures seem to be messed up in my project for seemingly no reason.
I've got Darkbase alongside some other texture sets, and all of the Darkbase side textures are missing in-game. However, the odd thing is that there is one particular texture from a completely different set of textures missing. I use Wadmerge, so all the textures are divided into just two segments, flats and sides.
I've got no clue what to do about this, as rebuilding the TEXTUREx and PNAME lumps don't do anything. It was working flawlessly yesterday, and I can't for the life of me figure out what could be causing this.

There is only a single TEXTUREx lump, though an odd thing to note is that it's TEXTURE1 instead of x.
I already tried rebuilding a TEXTURE1 lump though, and that didn't work.
One thing I neglected to mention is that there are a bunch of textures not included in the original Wadmerge WAD. I stole a couple from various WADs I liked and added them to the TEXTURE and PNAME lumps perfectly fine, at the time. Those aren't the textures being messed with though

There was concept art of Hell priests being more fucked up and grotesque instead of the blue wrinkly old men they ended up as
Kinda reminds me of the "Royal Archdemons" in the same art book
Also, pic related was someone's take on the Chaingunner before the boring Riot Soldier in TAG2
I think Peter Lawrence even looked at this and said "the purple goo isn't bad but i would give it to another design"
To be a "purple goo" slowing down attack would fit Arachnotrons more because i'd make puddles of purple goo shaped like spider webs

Reminder that part of the reason TerminusEst13 stopped modding in 2018 is because an insane tranny (and a friend of marrub's) sexually harassed him for months. I don't even like the guy that much but holy shit that's fucked up.
Don't give these faggots attention. This thread is already fucked, but seriously, stop acknowledging that they exist. They thrive on any form of attention because they are, at their core, narcissists. That's why they can't stop inserting themselves into everything, that's why they can't stop deliberately pushing the limits of what people find acceptable, that's why they can only exist in highly censored spaces, and that's why 41% of them off themselves once the attention starts to dry up.
If you want to do something, do this >>8652378. Take the parts of things you enjoy that haven't been infested, remove them from the parts that have, and give exactly zero fucks. Post them up for download, even, because every time you do I can assure you they're seething about it. Yeah it was great. Lots of really challenging big fights that took strategy to get through, even when you had been killed a few times and knew where the challenges were coming from. Really great to play Doom maps that I hadn't seen before so many times that there was no challenge any more.
Only thing is it seemed to me there were a few too many areas of it where the challenge was that it was too dark to see anything. So I'd be walking along and suddenly just taking loads of damage from a chaingun guy that I had no way of seeing before he locked on to me. any other enemy types would serve to box you in and make it harder to circle strafe the kalopsy's projectiles, and wittle down your burst damage ammo so you have to use the minigun, thus forcing them to shit more projectiles

>You're given a stungun, a dash, and a bullet time function, all of which need to be timed and used with discretion. You're gonna want to have at least one up at any given time.
>Some weapons can score headshots, which is good because you need to burst everything down ASAP.
>Decent enemy variety. Some enemies are clear priority targets based on their behaviors.
>Alright map design, at least from a gameplay perspective. Small scale encounters play like Quake + Nu-Doom, and the one open arena with a bunch of shit plays like a budget Serious Sam.
>Very few health pickups.

It's basically what I want in a game, but unfortunately has a lot of glaring flaws
>Enemy behaviors aren't all there yet. Most of them mindlessly charge at you in a line, so you can funnel them down hallways a little too easily. Wouldn't be an issue if stuff occasionally spawned behind you, or if terrain got temporarily blocked off.
>Any enemy with a homing projectile is a pushover because their attacks move super slowly and fizzle out after a set duration.
>Enemy placement needs refining. The just mentioned homing projectile enemies are sometimes too far away to do anything to you. Lots of enemies do.
>Boss battles completely hinge on the use of every gimmick you're given, and even then are total RNG bullshit with no rhyme or reason.
>Though there is good enemy variety, there's only a couple of encounters so far that utilize the enemies simultaneously to compliment each other.

Kustam still needs a few tweaks. Currently his shotgun tier pickup grants him extra damage when shooting shit at close range and I wonder if it's the right call. That missile subweapon of his that spawns a bunch of bombs that fan out and blow up is too strong too, I kinda want to give the missile a different effect but my tired ass has been coming up blank. >> No.8657529

it depends on formats, if you plan to do it in vanilla then no unless you replace the entire shotgun entity.
if it is in MBF format you can make it so that in the death state the monster can drop something, along the stuff that he already drops if it does already (though i cannot confirm as i never tried it, it's mostly a theory).

The original mbf is capable of having any frame spawn any item using the "spawn" action as others have said. This is how arachnobobs are spawned in valiant for example. You can also change what items are dropped in vanilla and boom but it's a bit limited. Item pickups are determined by the original frames that use them so if you wanted the chaingunner to drop a megasphere instead of a chaingun you could copy all the starting frames and other properties from one to the other and vice versa, and then you'd need to remember that these items are switched now when making the maps. Only the zombieman, shotgunner, chaingunner and nazi have item drops so you're always limited to those four, with two dropping the same stuff.
