Funny you say that because I had a similar idea but a combination of Capcom's D&D beat-em-ups with a dark spin on Mega Man's robot master system and Super Mario's "your princess is in another castle". Basically your starting location depends on which characters you play as and the map is sprawling. You have different paths through the game with multiple last bosses. You have to beat all of the bosses to finish the game but the castle the girl is actually being kept prisoner in is randomized. You can either beeline to the bosses hoping that you guess right or take a more circuitous route to gather information by interrogating the bosses' various minions, who are effectively the game's minibosses. Your interrogation tactics will determine how successful you are at getting good intel. Depending on which boss is holding the princess and how long it takes you to find her will determine her fate.

The SNES game is meh, especially when you to play it against the CPU. Right off the bat in the Normal mode you face off against Chicho, whose AI is ludicrously cheap. She's constantly using that leap attack (forgot the name) or sliding and you get easily BTFO even on lower difficulties. Satomi is also equally cheap, I had less problems beating Reimi lol.

The best game in this series is Advanced V.G. 2. It's still a SF2 with some KoF thrown in, but I like it more. In fact, I wasn't a fan of fighting games until A.V.G. 2.

Kichikuou Rance, while not a side-scrolling beat 'em up, has a comparable feature.
If you do not rescue Sill and Soul Less from the prison within a specific number of turns, you will discover that they were gangraped to death when you conquer the prison.
