She's such a tsundere.

I always wondered why Bowser/Koopa is so obsessed with the mushroom kingdom. What's there that's worth his time anyway? Oil? That must be oil. Why isn't the princess using her magic power to do anything by the way? The 1st game implies she's the only one who can undo the spell put on by Koopa.

I've posted what I think his reasons are on here before:
>My headcanon is that Peach is a powerful sorceress and mycologist that maintains a population of mushroom retainers from an undisclosed laboratory somewhere in the Mushroom Kingdom. I think impregnating the princess was just a bonus for Bowser; he wanted an easier source of willing followers than koopakind was able to offer him. I also find it worth noting that his fungal minions are obviously less capable than the toads are. He wanted whatever knowledge Peach had that he didn't.

This is what I've always thought as well. Mario's quest is to stay tripping off his tits for as long as possible, so he doesn't have to face the reality of being a plumber in Brooklyn. I'm sure when the drugs wear off, we'd see a real life scenario of a naked Italian coming down off drugs, running down a NY street yelling "YIPPIE!" to himself while jumping over trashcans and cars.

Pretty sure they did it to demonstrate Switch's tech capabilities (woah, those graphics, man!), to celebrate Mario's anniversary in some way and to reference original Donkey Kong game once more. New Donk is basically a super-expanded remaster of original DK level (yes i said that) in 3D.

Mario basically visits his past life, but from different timeline. That's why he's cartoonish and the rest of people are not.

There are pocket dimensions with the bonus levels so it's pretty clear the rings just go to a pocket dimension until Sonic is damaged and then they fall back out, or until he goes Super Sonic and then they get broken down for energy.

The rings in the movie act as portals to other worlds, and Sonic's guardian gave him a bag of them when he had to be shunted to Earth for his own protection. He ends up dropping the bag when he needs to escape our world for the same reason, and getting his rings back becomes his central hook. Wouldn't work in the games since their function is unrelated, but I like that they managed to make rings important here.

I enjoyed it, but I love Jim Carrey chewing the scenery enough to have been rewarded for my time. It's a perfectly fine children's road trip movie, and because it was decent instead of a historic disaster like how it looked initially, it's really been elevated for being passable. It's...weird, too, just in the sense that hearing a serious government man in a war room say "Robotnik" is, or a sudden piano version of the Green Hill Zone theme near the end. If you don't think you'd get anything out of it, you wouldn't. Sequel honestly looks pretty good, though.

That's honestly the impression I've gotten from the trailer for the second movie. I'm more interested in it than the first one.
I know this is probably an apples and oranges sort of comparison, but I felt like my modern nostalgia-catering video game movie itch was scratched by Detective Pikachu. I don't even plan to rewatch that and don't have trouble believing the Sonic movie was better than that one, but it sated me in that aspect if that makes sense
