"This picture was taken during DOOM development in 1993. Adrian's in his room (which he shared with Kevin Cloud) and you can see here that he was modeling the Baron of Hell out of clay himself, based on his own sketch of the Baron.

Also, this was the very first clay model that was made for DOOM.

At this stage, he wasn't called the Baron of Hell, but rather, a Bruiser Brother (since there were two of them at the end of the first episode of DOOM."

"This picture was taken during DOOM development in 1993. This is the DOOM chainsaw sitting in a bucket, ready to be scanned by Kevin to create the image of the chainsaw in DOOM. The reason it's in a bucket is because it leaked oil! That's also why there's newspapers all around it. :) Heh heh, yes, the name of the chainsaw was Eager Beaver. The little Post-It Note next to the chainsaw says "Borrowed from Ann Graver Holz". Ann was Tom Hall's girlfriend at the time and since she had a chainsaw (Most of us apartment-dwellers did not own a chainsaw!), she let Tom borrow it. Tom, um, forgot to give it back to her.....so........it's still around. Tom is going to do something with it, probably sometime this year!"

The computer he's using is a NEXTSTEP system made by HP (nicknamed the Gecko), in fact the machine name of his computer was "idtokay". Under his desk, the black hardware looks to be an older NeXT Computer. The room we were working in at that time was called the War Room -- we were all working in the same room while the rest of the office was being built out. To the right of American's desk was Tim Willits', and then my desk."

Actually, the first thing Doom setup will ask you for is to set your controller: KB only, KB+M, KB+J. Alright, I am working on the torrent again (as if I haven't said that before), and need some more FPS titles for the torrent. You may have read from previous posts that I have made, that I will be including first person RPGs as the MAIN theme of this torrent due to not having many more FPS titles, which is true.

I would appreciate it if you were to tell me any issues you may have found with the previous torrent. I have fixed the music issue in Powerslave/Exhumed(along with added the playstation version) already, but one mistake easily means I could have made another.

I am still looking for Extreme Paintbrawl, along with the full versions of Rodger Ramrod, Bobenstein 3D(I am actually not sure if this is full or not now that I think about it), and Prime Target if you can supply it.

As always, I would definitely appreciate any titles you can muster. Here is my current to do list.
http://pastebin.com/FrejHvge
(Those marked under the category (OTHER) are simply titles I have yet to organize into the current scheme.)

Along with any other pre full-3D game in this list.
http://www.allgame.com/style.php?id=411&tab=games&page=1&sort=title_ASC

Also, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, now would be the time to say it.

I honestly can't understand how you found the wad tedious when the locales were varied and large enough that you had to rely on a number of different strategies to survive, while the lethality of enemy attacks actually made them feel threatening. ok guys so

i'm making my first custom weapon ever (ultrashotgun i called it, yeah i know such an original name, right?) and i have a question

does A_Recoil nullifies any effect set in A_Quake by default? because when I fire the shotgun it throws me back as desired but i don't see any screen shaking at all.

here's how they're currently set up

USHO A 0 A_Quake (9, 7, 0, 32)
USHO A 0 A_Recoil (20)
USHO A 0 A_GunFlash
USHO A 0 A_PlayWeaponSound("weapons/ultrafire")
USHO A 5 A_FireBullets

do I need to change their order or it doesn't matter?

>> No.863000

>>862925

Its kind of hard to explain if you weren't there for the initial split from direct zdoom/gzdoom development and skulltag's development

basically the main reason for this was that skulltag had a pretty good team of coders who could properly hold up the development on its own without being tied down the ever slower growing releases from Gez and Graf zahl's zdoom team, there was also Carn's side-project (what is now titled as Wrack which was initially titled project vega) which he wanted to develop on the skulltag engine and sell it for money (something which he couldn't have done if it was still attached to zdoom because of legal reasons and the issue of addressing just who would be paid for their work on the zdoom engine)

>> No.863007

>>863000
Didn't Wrack fully break off into a distinct product? Also, did Wrack ever make it to market? I remember a beta and him taking preorders, and I don't remember anything else about it since.

>> No.863016

>>863007

Yeah, eventually it did some time around 07/08 (which was also when Carnevil pretty much broke himself from skulltag's development as well, causing it to hit a wall as every little change to skulltag would require his permission to use his code; he was also really paranoid about giving out his code to people) and you can currently pre-order it, which gets you access to the beta version of the game and some other junk

If nothing else, the voice acting for the female narration taught me that actually it was a good thing I never asked any of my female friends to voice for my mod, because DAMN that was the flattest reading of anything I've ever heard.

Also, anybody played Serpent Resurrection? Apart from the somewhat ropey level design at times, and the performance issues I had, it was fucking AWESOME. I actually played it solid for 2 days - the palace took me an entire day to do, I was clearing out rooms at a time and then running back outside to sell loot and stock up potions. It felt like a true oldschool RPG, and I highly recommend it to anybody who likes Hexen/Heretic (it adds a couple of new weapons and mana types as well so you have more than 4 guns to try)

Even the soundtrack, which is made up of mod files from modplugarchive, is perfect. When I first played it I thought the music was actually custom made for the mod, but only after beating it did I find he used other tracks. The guy is a master at finding the right track for the right level.

Normally I wouldn't gush so much about a WAD, but SR was memorable because I could not stop playing it - a week after I played it I bought Bioshock Infinite and literally had to force myself to play it, and couldn't even finish it (And I normally enjoy newer games)

One more thing about Temple of the Lizardmen 3 - the first two had pretty open levels and stuff, but in the 3rd one they're all pretty tiny in size AND scope. I mean if you play the steam version of the game it's got issues over all.
And unlike anyone else.
I keep getting a weird glitch.
The game keeps turning my run mode on and off even though run mode is on.
I am using a external keyboard for my laptop. So that might be it.

Hey guyse one question

Is FreeDoom totally compatible with the current catalog of WADs, even if it's missing some textures? How about the monsters, I remember doing a quick lookup at the contents of it and it didn't had any sprites for the revenants.

Will this cause some problems with maps containing the "new" Doom 2 monsters?

I borrowed the GoG version to test it out.
When I ran the GOG version it came out like the steam version.
but without a item bar on the bottom and it was all widescreen.
It keeps running this shit in DOSbox.

I tried the steam version with the source port yet that flickering run mode thing kept happening.

My laptops internal keyboard got fucked up so now I use a external one. Not sure, I've never had this issue with doom or any other fps.

Any new issues with the files in the torrent? Nothing gamebreaking or are there necessary gameplay improvements that could better a gamers experience that I did not include(Example: 'Superior' sourceport, 'improved' gameplay modifications (SEE: System Shock GAMESETUP.txt)? I already regret not pairing bMouse with Blood, may include just the bmouse executable in the update ! No questions on how to set up a certain game? Do the games work on Windows 7 64bit (I am unfamiliar sadly)? What about on previous systems(Vista, XP, etc)? Is the information given in the text files correct, and what do you think would make the files more clear and/or better? Please tell me if I messed up by including a game without its music(excluding Powerslave/Exhumed (fixed in the next update))! Any other ports on different systems you would like to see of a certain game (Sometimes they are completely/very different(SEE: Doom 64, Quake II 64(not in the torrent, but still), Powerslave/Exhumed on PS1, etc))? What are the virus scans from different scanners (excluding avast!)? I ask that because I only used one scanner, and they don't all detect the same infections. What games available would you recommend someone to play(I may have tried it, but comparatively to reading the first or second page of a book)? How often do you actually try new games from the torrent, and what are the game titles that intrigued you the most(it isn't relevant, but I find it interesting)? I can keep this up, but I will just be as general as possible; if you have any other questions, comments, concerns, or any new game titles not included, please post them, and I will get to them whenever possible!

I think you guys might love to check this out

http://marathon.speeddemosarchive.com/schedule

Speed Demos Archive does every once in a while speedrunning marathons for charity, in the next couple of weeks they will be running the Summer Games Done Quick marathon like every year

Now, here's the deal. One of the brand new additions for this year is none other than Doom 64. If everything goes right and the schedule doesn't change, they will be running that game in July 27th, 23:30 central time. The best part? They will be setting donations for playing the game under "Watch Me Die!" in 1 hour and 30 mins. or less

If you have some dollaroos to spare, or you know somebody who love to make donations for charities, well, be sure to make this happen; I've been following SDA and their videos, and you might have seen some of their runs (more specifically, the Doom/Doom 2 speedruns of this year) and they're total bros. If you want to take a look at how skilled they are and/or the many jokes they often do during the marathons, check their Highlight videos in Youtube ("Awesome Games Done Quick" could be considered as a more serious marathon than "Summer Games..."; they often do SGDQ in somebody's house)

Also, totally off-topic, but I'm getting many levels of hype after seeing that they'll be running Final Fantasy V too

Guess I'll drop this before I leave.

I've always loved Doom, and played it in almost every form. Until a few months ago, though, I never really got into the custom content scene, or even lurked in the Doom community online. So, after reading a thread here on 4chan about WADs and Brutal Doom, I decided to grab BD, grabbed the latest version of Oblige, and started raiding the Doomworld Archives for as much as I could. I've yet to even get halfway done with just the Doom II section of custom levels. I based what to download on a combination of the star rating, number of votes, and my own intuition, and so far I'm loving a lot of what I've got so far.

Oblige is simply amazing for generating levels, and Brutal Doom is honestly one of the few non-pornographic things that actually gave me a true hard-on. I have to say, I'm glad I looked into this stuff, even if it was a bit late.

One of the first things someone did for our threads was a Contra Weapons mod, I think it's in the FAQ, try searching for it

Then, I felt like adding a few things to that weapon mod as a bonus with no intentions of getting my crappy stuff in the official thing, such as music (ranging from the NES games, Contra 3 and even a Hard Cops song), altern "contra-ish" deaths for the enemies and stuff like that

The weapon mod is pretty much finished, and I'm just adding a few missing deaths for the enemies, and that's all

http://pastebin.com/5sKRiJzS

This is "Doomtra", the weapons mod made by gawd-knows-who
http://www.mediafire.com/?a1zet186va1yc06

And this is the Doomtra Addon, this is the current version of it (0.3.3), the one in the pastie is outdated
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ekamcpd45uyp3s6/DoomtraAddonv0.3.3.wad

Also, I compiled the tracklist of the Contra songs from the addon as a seperate file. This was made for two reasons

*Let's say you want to play this with Back To Saturn X, and you don't want to replace the godlike music with the Contra songs

*If you want to play a certain (old) WAD with the vanilla weapons but it doesn't have any custom music at all

This is the file
https://www.dropbox.com/s/05nwti8qob5pd3c/ContraMusic.wad

However, the map MUST NOT have any custom stuff that might avoid the usage of the classic music filenames, because the ContraMusic.wad uses those filenames to replace the music in the game

H-hi /vr/

I've never played Doom before. I want to play it closest to the original as possible. Is that even possible with ZDoom or is everything somehow updated?

I'm trying to play it, but it seems like monsters aren't spawning and the only audio that works is the music.

Apologies if this stuff has been answered but I haven't read the entire thread

The original DOOM was built for both so use whichever you prefer. Don't use free look though.

>> No.873137

>>873129
I played through original doom with arrow keys, but both options were available upon release, and if you play modern shooters (I do) you'll greatly prefer WASD+strafe+mouselook.

Try both, see what happens. DOOM itself isn't built for freelook, that didn't exist originally (or jumping), so I recommend not using jumping for sure, freelook is useful but kinda ruins a few parts.
