That being said...i don't doubt for a second that a remake would probably be kind of terrible. Part of the charm of this was (i see now) the rather sharp difficulty climb, which i doubt anyone would preserve.

Combo of SHUMP and Metroidvania gameplay? Fucking hell yes. there was supposed to be some fan-made remake in the works, but it apparently fell apart, probably due to it being done by one guy. Graphics are the most to gain from modern remakes. The only exception would be something like the Starfox 3DS remake. Or any 3DS remake for that matter. Nah, I'd say additional content like a bonus dungeon or some shit, or some small convenience changes like OoT3D making equipping the iron boots much easier or Wind Waker HD adding faster sailing and more equipment slots, and general technical improvements like a far greater draw distance or more consistent and higher frame rate, are the biggest things a remake can do.
And this is ignoring remakes that actually make huge changes like REmake, Zero Mission, Super Mario 64 DS, Mega Man Powered Up, and so on.
Graphics are less important than all of that, I'd say.

That said, I would hope a MM remake would use cel-shading for it's shadows, sort of like what No More Heroes does, to match the style of MM's official art.
I think it would suit the game quite well, and really enhance the atmosphere.

Two-Games-In-One

QUAKE
======

Plays identically to the original quake, with the exception of updated graphics.

Modern/Classic graphic modes can be toggled.

Harder difficulty modes added for single player, as well as reimagined gametypes alongside the originals.

AFTERSHOCK
============

New campaign, takes place in an alternate dimension (because... uh... it's convenient).

Here, there are more and different weapons, different challenges, and a more modern feel while staying as true as possible to the core of the original Quake.

Things like strafe running have been removed, as well as rocket jumping. Think Quake-lite, with bits of Battlefield thrown in.
These two have separate onlines. Aftershock being the more casual format, for players new to the Quakiverse.

Personally? I would love to see Wizardry IV remade. It would be interesting to see what the company that makes the game would do with the new graphics capabililty.

It would also be neat to observe how the game would be created to preserve the penetrating difficulty that the game is known for. But I know that this is only a dream.

The other game I would see being remade (again) would be Bard's Tale. You just can't beat the classic RPG experience you get while playing the original and it's remake.

Bonus dungeons? why? the game feels like a complete experience already.

I honestly hate remakes. It feels like the enhanced editions of StarWars with a bunch of added garbage. Companies should instead focus on ensuring that the games are still playable today as untouched as possible since the old consoles wont last forever and emulation isnt perfect. The only accepted "improvements" would be the purely technical stuff like load times and frame rates.

Like Delita becomes corrupted by power (as if he wasn't to an extent already) and Ramza and Alma have to come out of hiding to save Ivalice or something like that. Add a few more classes along the same lines as the onion knight like they did for the psp remake and some side quests. Having your party face off against other people's parties on PSN would pretty amazing as well, maybe add some special online only items and classes. Given the technology on the current and next gen systems they could really run with it as far as making it cinematic and adding lots of cool extras for hardcore fans of the FFT series.

I got it on the Wii and was so excited for 4 player splitscreen like back in the day.. but problem was even on a 50 inch screen you can't see SHIT on this game. I don't understand how we as teenagers played the original on a 20 inch CRT with 4 player split screen. We must have hovered inches from the screen.

As for my pick of remade games on modern consoles..

Final Fantasy V and VI, not remade on a handheld but as a console game, with Final Fantasy XV level visuals. I really hope Final Fantasy XV delivers and outsells VII, so that Squeenix can remake some of the older games they claim they won't remake until they surpass VII in sales.

Aside from the glitch fixes it doesn't do any of the things I mentioned, and there are still plenty of glitches from the original game that have yet to be fixed.
Don't get me wrong, I love Sonic 3 Complete. It's the only way I ever play Sonic 3 & Knuckles anymore. But an official remake could go further in some significant areas.
Ideally, there'd be a remake of Complete on the Retro Engine, but I'd settle for just Sonic 3 & Knuckles with widescreen and shit.

Starflight for the Genesis

Had a ton of depth and exploration, sound effects for the time were actually pretty jarring and scary at times. The fact you visited all these star systems(some of them on the brink of supernova) with all kinds of planets with different biomes/weather/gravity and stuff that you could embark on and mine or die trying, and then you run into the fucking alien species like the Mechan 9 or the Minstrels and have to do some brain work to actually figure them out. the 360 version was built from the ground up, but essentially the same. it has a few extra MP maps, and XP achievements, it seems, but that's about it.

I like playing it on classic 00 agent. You had to utilize body armor there. The shitty thing is that XP takes too long to gain in multiplayer before you can level up. It's a pain in the ass. And you have to be level 35 before you can participate in "Classic Multiplayer" where you have to use body armor, and such.

Online is still kicking well enough for the Wii. There's seems to be a lot of new players too, or at least lower level ones. In fact, I'm online right now.

>> No.869781

Yeah I played it a little today and got kinda frustrated with the oversensitivity of the Wii motion plus in it. I remember it being better with just the regular wii remote so I'll try that maybe tomorrow.

I seem to have remember not being able to find a single game last time I tried online but managed to get games today. Definitely agree with ranking up being slow unless you hack. I don't like the locked loadouts behind xp levels, an aspect of call of duty I really hate frankly.

I don't mind SOME unlocks but not when they're as game changing as the silencer

also you have to play single player on call of duty style first before you can unlock classic mode, and have to get higher level as you said for classic mode multiplayer.

I prefer the original.

>> No.869806

All good points. I prefer N64 as well. But Wii is a welcome addition for me.

I'm "better" with the wiimote but it's fuck all confusing for me, even when playing with it for a while. I can never adjust the sensitivities just right, and find myself changing them constantly. So I stick with the Classic Controller because it gives me more consistent results.

What's your FC? I need some buds to play with, but NOBODY I know has this game. Hell half of them went 360 and Cowdoody, and never came back.

Tighten up the challenge for normal mode. Just include a Dark Souls-tier difficulty.

Turn either Magirock or magic into a non-scarce resource. And with the ability to use magic, it should be just as balanced.

Also, during the restoring humanity chapter, you should be able to still build the country if you don't vote for the capitalist president. It would just be a waaaay different line of upgrades and rewards. More choice in Terranigma would be amazing.

Star Fox has only ever been released once on the SNES. It didn't even end up on virtual console.
So I'd like a remake with the following changes:
>modern resolution
>consistent 60 fps
>far greater draw distance
>added aiming reticle
>game doesn't default to cockpit view in space levels and remembers what view you've used last
>use higher quality Arwing model from the title screen, menu screen, ending, and so on during gameplay
>make hitboxes much more accurate
>replace all dithering with the average of the 2 colors being dithered
>animations on models redone and improved
>redo sprite graphics at about double the resolution, maybe create animations for them as well. Something like these asteroids: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rObi13jlNy4&t=31m50s
>do more than just scale sprite assets, have rotation too
>improve backgrounds, have some things get larger as you get further in the stage, have some animation, like planet rotation, etc. keep such effects rudimentary looking, like the planet rotation in the background here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DGfvz-QxY0&t=3s
>Weekend Competition mode
>scoring in the normal game improved, maybe just something like the Weekend Competition
>save scores
>go back to the title screen after the ending
Leave everything else untouched, or, alternatively, turn the low poly 3D and minimalistic color palette into a style and have it look something like Rez.

Oh, and throw in Star Fox 2 with similar enhancements as well, because why not?
