Do you think if this got released in arcades in the west it would’ve taken off as it did in Japan, or was its brand of bullshit a bit too much for American arcadegoers at the time

Considering dogshit pick-a-door games like Dragon's Lair succeeded here I don't see why Druaga couldn't have found a niche. However, Quest of Ki definitely would have been too hard

I’m sure Druaga would have spawned a similar player community for sharing tips and secrets like it did in Japan.

>The promotional arcade flyer used miniature dioramas with cardboard cutouts instead of drawings, a response to Namco president Masaya Nakamura's hatred towards manga.

I was commenting on Namco's head hating anime, considering stuff like Tales. And a lot of their licensed Shonen Jump games (but I guess that's probably more the Bandai side than the Namco side)

Western insects can't into skill. They just want to credit feed their way through the game for eye candy and a quick dopamine rush. That's why american arcade devs came out with completely unbalanced garbage like Rampage and CarnEvil throughout the 90s which could never be 1cc'd. So, Tower of Druaga, being an actual skill-based game, would have failed miserably.
