Maybe among Tekken fans, specially during Tekken 5 hype, but not mainstream demand for Her Story. Guessing it was the time were they could afford experimentation, and she was definitely a solid contender for a spin off when compared to other fighters, given her profession. If Namco played it right it could've been something.
The Rise to Honor style combat really hurts this game, it could've been a good ol fashion beat em up like Tekken Force or a DMC with martial arts. Here you have this character with already fully fleshed out combat moves and you go with analog stick combat? I guess props for trying something 'new' but this was a no brainer, Tekken 5 pulled it off with Jin's simplified move set in that game's Tekken Force, imagine if they did that for Nina, but with actual care and a bigger budget than a side project like Jin's TF mode. It's baffling that they went with right stick combat.

Yoshimitsu could've been another good contender for a spin off in the style of Ninja Gaiden game.
Also nina looks weird in game, her face does not match her cgi or Tekken title's look. I'd play another Nina spin off game if they give it to Capcom or Platinum and make it an actual dmc style game.
Those CGI cutscenes were sexy af, i'll give them that. Nina in that swimsuit, wew, what a breed demon

Other games this happened with are FFIX and FFX for example. Both were not FF games until it was needed and the FF team swapped over to development to make "untitled" into IX and "seventeen" into FFX. FFX was under Sony request to get a launch title for the ps2.
