What's everyone's current method of running PS2 backups on original hardware?

Are you:
>still using burns?
>using the ethernet port to stream games?
>using an installed HDD?
>running games off USB?
>running an SD card mod?
>using another method not listed?

Mostly curious about performance issues and compatibility. Got a slim with a modchip and a laser that won't read discs very good. Weighing my options on what to do.

mix of running games off burned cd/dvd, and HDD
tho honestly given up on ps2 for now to play some more dreamcast because my ps2 keeps fucking forgetting how to detect my hdds, randomly itll decide not to anymore even after properly turning off the system by IGR'ing to OPL and pressing turn off. I think its cache related, according to that psx forum but ive fucking given up on this autistic console for now.

This is probably a long shot but I have a fat PS3 50001 that I want to freemcboot and I have a spare hard drive pic related and I want to know if it will work apparently the PS2 is very picky on which hard drive will work. I checked ps2drives.x-pec.com and when I searched the model 3 entries come up 2 of them say they work whereas the 3rd says it doesn't work.

wired, right? I'm wondering if there's a wireless solution that would work because I don't have my ps2 slim set up in the same room as my PC and router, and the prospect of running a long cable between both rooms isn't exactly feasible.

Another semi-related question: how's PS1 game compatibility with your setup?

Still using burns with the OPL patch, I have a shitton of old DVDs lying around and that's easier than trying the ethernet shit...I want to check it out someday so I can save the laser and play games larger than 5 gb but my technical know-how is almost 0; still don't know what kind of cable to get. Mostly been playing FFX for the billionth time and fucking around with weird out-of-region shit like Maken Shao and that .Hack MMO. Makes me wish there was a PS2 private server for FFXI.
>>8553617
I remember checking out some of the PS1 compatibility charts for burned disks, but it seemed like a ton of work for not much reward; duckstation works almost too well to justify it. I don't remember much of what I read though, so take it with a grain of salt and all that.

I recommend finding some old laptop and using it as a dedicated server rather than using your daily use machine. You don't need a router either, just connect an ethernet cable directly from the computer to the console.

did you get one of those chink lasers from eBay? I bought one before but you had to desolder a particular point before it could activate. I remember tearing my hair out trying to figure out why this new laser wasn't responding after installation, only to stumble on the answer later.

Afterwards I remember still having to remove it again in order to adjust the pots as it wasn't reading discs correctly, still doesn't but by that point I gave up trying to fix the problem. Now the laser will *sometimes* read back-ups and retail games perfectly find and other times can't stream data fast enough off the disc, interrupting gameplay (open-world games like GTA suffer the most).

And it won't read CDs at all. Tempted to start over and get another laser that's not shit.

The most recent(? I think?) stable version has been pretty stable for me. Games that didn’t work (properly) on previous versions like Super Dragon Ball Z, Half-Life, and for the most part, Fatal Frame 3 worked better, if not, perfectly on it. I have about 300 games on my HDD, and the ones I’ve tried for the time being work fine.

I know games like Max Payne 1 and 2, and Deus Ex have had issues on OPL in the past, but I haven’t tried them out at all on the newer stable version, so I can’t vouch for every game working better, but the ones I have played definitely do.
