Holy shit, I never got that far in Ecco. Jesus.

The weirdest/scariest(?) 2D bosses I've ever fought were all in Metroid Fusion. SA-X instills genuine fear and Nightmare-X was unexpectedly weird the first time I played (probably a couple times after, too).

It doesn't. /vr/ isn't one person.

My own opinion is that it isn't an amazing game, but a fun ride.
It has a nice atmosphere and sound design, the rest of the game falls flat to many people because it's an exploration game.

The sequel was fun and I would have wanted to see closure to the story, but it would haven't had anything new really.

Couldn't find an image/video of it but still...

So in the final stage (of the Genesis version, anyway) you beat this huge ass monster... then this scrawny, elderly scientist guy comes and starts weeping over the dead monster's body, and then runs up to you and starts to desperately, pathetically pound away at you, and you actually have to kick the poor guy around...

I mean, yeah, he does turn into an even bigger monster eventually, but it always made me feel bad.

Personally, I was enamored with Ecco because it was visually impressive. When I saw Ecco it was the most graphically impressive video game that I had seen. The most graphically impressive thing that I had ever seen prior to that was when the Tiger Sphinx rises in Aladdin in theaters. Back to Ecco. Ecco was graphically impressive but it also had the good fortune to coincide with a Flipper movie that came out in 1994 or 1995 that starred Elijah Wood. i think Flipper came out afterwards. Free Willy also came out before that, around the same time. Also, I recall learning about the breakdown of the animal kingdom in elementary school. Dolphins were used as the aquatic evidence of mammalian adaptability. I suspect that a lot of kids, part of the target demographic for the game, took to the game for this reason. I suspect that a major demographic on this board is dudes approaching or just passed 30. This is the only board I go to and that's me.

i don't even LIKE Ecco or genesis games in general.
Please, stop. If it was trolling, good for you, you rused this thread pretty well. If it was not, you're a genuine, 100% buttjester.

Yes.

H-H-H-H-HELLO THERE, HACKER. I SEE YOU WALK-K-K-K-ING DOWN MY CORRIDOR. LISTEN WHILE I S-S-S-S-S-SAY SOME GENERICALLY OMINOUS THINGS.

Good choice. Ecco is a casual game with passwords while Gunstar Heroes has to be beaten in one sitting.

Ecco is good. But if you hold it against GH (the best Genesis game IMO) then get GH of course.
GH is simply more fun with adapting difficulty and high replayability, and if you find another player it's even better.

I love GH. But 2P is a bit too much for the Genny to handle and it starts to lag.

All the bosses in Killer7 were weird but the lastish one stands out.
He's hanging from the ceiling and you have to shoot his sides so he swings back and forth and his pants fly off, then his crotch is his weak point.

Man I wish I didn't use cheats for that game back as a kid. That boss fight didn't mean much shit to me other than timing jumps. I'm sure the build up to it would've been better had I not played the entire game with Spidey Unlimited's invisibility.
