Hello, /vr/. Hope you had a Happy New Year. I am NOT the organizer for /v/'s latest Super Mario World collab hack. Our current baserom includes the Cancer Lord fight and various level edits. The organizer plans to release a new baserom by the end of the year (he didn't specify which year, though), and that it will include the last major bosses and the reworked puzzle. You can use this thread and the testing doc to discuss the current build and the new one when that releases, as well as the last remaining works in progress.

Fanart is fine when its between the updates from OP and other anons who actually participated in the base game.
When the thread is nothing but art, random anons who haven't even contributed to the game suggesting retarded ideas or thinking that shit which has already been baked into game can be changed on the fly, then is when it becomes crap.

The sprite edits from the previous threads are fine, but its too late to really change everything. Most people are already using custom ExGFX's so you're basically asking OP to go through EVERY level to make sure that any used stuff like 'Sawblades' or 'Spikeballs' and be sure their ExGFX file is updated to the new sprite, let alone pallet changes.

I don't want OP to give us a new baserom. I want OP to just give us a 'I'm still alive, i've finished 'x', i'm working on 'y' and i'll be releasing the game on 'z'.

Most of the levels have been playtested by Lomm. The game is still functional. Most of the glitches/issues OP has addressed. CONCEPTION's boss is still a no show and should be considered dead. Its already got a end state so its not an issue. The only thing which really would stop the hack from being playable is

Very magnificent work anon. I was waiting for you to return ever since you made the one for /v/2 and showed off the first progress of the /v/3 cover art. You really went all out on this one.

It feels very sweet to see some of the sprites I made over a year ago in the group. I really dig the idea of ditching having the final bosses be on the cover, for it instead to be obstructed by a nice looking title.

I don't have much ideas on what you could add as a sign, other than Yotsuba with 404 text above like what you see when a thread is deleted.

Seeing the cover be finished makes me feel a bit more hopeful about the current state of the hack. Still, with how infrequent OP's updates are I'm not sure what happens next. I've finished updated the testing doc a few months and I have nothing else to do than just wait for the Southern Cross port and hopefully a new build soon. I'm not the biggest SMW fanatic around, but seeing 4chan collaborate on hacking a game I've always liked makes me feel very happy.

first of all, regarding Ampharos Hell: is shifting the camera left (to make it onto the first grinder) an intended strat? I find I can't make it any other way.

second, I was going through the archives, and unless my eyes befuddle me, the time-out room in Bender's Big Score intends for you to input a password from an archived 4chan post?! I mean, I can see paying v coins for the hint from the store, that could work as a puzzle, but you shouldn't have to go beyond the game to get into Special Zone, that's just insane. especially if/when the archive goes down, then future players get screwed.
in my first batch of edits, I did my own thing with that time-out room and added a goal orb, I think that's a better bet. assuming that gets added, the hint in the storehouse may have to be adjusted.
I also plan to release a second, smaller batch of edits very soon.

Apparently, you can swim through the layer 2 blocks when they're rising in Darkholme's Dungeon Dive. This means that you can just swim under the whole level and skip to the end. The solution I found is to put these layer 2 bones on top of them (after shortening the blocks by one tile, so it's the same height). This makes it so you get pushed to the left if you try to clip inside, and you get crushed between the block and the bone if you get between them. Also, since I made the level, I'll actually add a Darkholme, since the lack of him was pointed out earlier.

The Yellow Devil fight is cool. I got the pattern down pretty quick, it's just that the timing for the jumps is tight (e.g. you have to jump twice in a row when his right foot flies at you). Shadow Devil is easier, since you have more time to react to his body parts turning into squares.

You fight on the clock tower, and you have a time limit before the moon crashes. He flies around like a Phanto and shoots out fireballs, and has an attack where you have to hit a series of blocks or else you spontaneously combust. He disappears when he spawns little phantom versions of the bosses from throughout the /v/orld series, each with four hit points. After you kill a phantom, it turns into an ocarina that you can then throw to damage him, but in this phase he randomly teleports and spawns moving walls of fire, and the ocarina disappears after a set amount of time; when that happens, you have kill that phantom again. So basically all the boss phantoms act as his hit points. He also randomly causes weird effects, like the arena graphics disappearing and screen flickering.

Wart Pepe flies at the top of the screen and the pattern of his REEs switch between homing in on you and a Contra spread gun-like shot. /v/-tan stomps the ground to create spikes, now causing shockwaves that stun you if you're grounded, and some of the spikes pop out from the ground.

Boss programming and testing is a bitch so its fine that it takes a while.
The Miniboss just needs fixing so it flags up a Secret Exit on defeat.
The CONCEPTION Boss is fucking dead guys. Its been radio silence, it helps that the level itself is already a GOAT so its not too bad.

Outside of these, There is the tweaks suggested in the three design docs. Most of them are pretty small. These tweaks are mostly just shit like 'This level is using the wrong tile' 'this has cutoff' your typical SMWC wank issues. Stuff like actual level design I don't think should be touched unless it makes the level unbeatable (so no editing sadist course's checkpoint. that shit is funny)

Another thing. How is credits going to be handled? /v/1 had it just be the default SMW ending but with all credits being Anonymous, and /v/2 decided to let people have Tripfag or meme names.

If we're being realistic. The project will most likely not be live until around Mid-End Feb.

Update: Getting the hack released ASAP is the top priority, so the initial release will be missing a few extra things. The boss rush and playable characters are not dead - they WILL be added in an update.

Sneedzoid is complete except for the port. But if you've been curious enough to look through the files in the cancer baserom you've likely noticed a currently unused port called "super training". This was intended for the boss rush, but for now I'm considering using it instead of Adventure's End until the update is released. I'd love a Mario 3 hack. I recently played a new hack called Wetland Trials. It was fun, so that tells me that /v/ and/or /vr/ can collage some levels made in SMB3 Foundry, maybe even release it for the site's 20th anniversary. That gravity gun /v/inale room is confusing. I don't know if I was meant to do that frame-perfect jump-and-grab tech on the gun and keys, but it was the only way I could think of to clear it. Okay, I found the issue. The SFX was trying to use a sample that wasn't included in the second song, so it was just a matter of putting the sample back (while removing others to make space for it). I've contributed to both /v/2 and /v/3. I'm not a ASM kiddie, so I just contributed by making levels and sprites. For /v/3 I'm mainly just chilling after I submitted my levels, but I made a testing doc after the cancer build came out. I'm planning to resume testing once the new build comes out, so I can mark my issues as resolved. Was lurking during /v/1 to see if anything came of it. It got me back into doing Lunar Magic stuff and started putting together a few personal romhacks. Then /v/2 was announced.

Contributed to /v/2 from the start. Made 'Sumobro Dojo' and 'Art Attack' I also did the concept and original level for 'Chun-Li Please Snap My Dick In Half' before I couldn't really think of a good level gimmick for it. Both Old OP and Yellow took up the mantle of actually making a level for it. I'm sure I said it back then but hats off to Riesz for the Drawcia port, hats off to the ASM anons for making the Art Attack background work too.
I also did the coverart for it. I think I helped a few people out with sprite stuff but nothing major. Made Bowser Room 11.

Afterwards started doing romhacking again. A personal one and was also going to do a romhack for a streamer but I got lazy/unmotivated to finish it. The personal romhack also got shelved.

Got contacted by both OP's for /v/3 and offered to make some levels and the coverart again.
Made 'Freshly Grown Green Switch Palace', '1002 Spikes' 'Candy Chateau' and 'Paint Panic' (Forgot what Bowser Room it was but I did the Xatu one)
Once again. Thanks to the anon's who coded the Mini boss and the Yellow/Shadow Devil battles. The anon's who was able to make the 32x32 NPC edit, the anon who made the ASM for Candy Chateau. The Anon who helped let me understand how to use pallet animation for Paint Panic along with the ASM for the image changing. Shout out to the 'Cute and Funny' anon who helped with the stupid 'Hat Kid' sprite.

Also the cursed art of the Nintendo Ninja girls but bite me, I've got nothing better to draw.

btw, I edited 2 of your levels in v/3. for meteor wave, I shifted the shell over by a tile (to prevent a glitch where the koopa gets taken out). I also added solid tiles to the right of the goal orb (to make it look like the passage is bricked up, instead of ending with an invisible barrier).

The Good Ol' Days was gonna be a much larger level than how it is now. It would have a intro sequence that plays out in /vr/-tan's house where he would turn on his console and it would suck Moot into the tv. It would have 5 sublevels that are based on various retro vidya games, hence the title. You had to beat all the sublevels in 1000 seconds before the timer runs out. Each sublevel had a dragon coin in a secret location that you had to collect to beat the secret exit. After beating the fifth sublevel you would be thrown out of the tv and you would beat the level by leaving /vr/-tan's house and swearing at him. There would be a secret wall that would open once you had all 5 dragon coins which would lead to a secret sublevel that leads to the secret exit.

I was halfway done with making the second sublevel (which was gonna be based on Yoshi's Island) but then my folder got wiped because of some corruption on my drive, so I lost all my motivation because I didn't want to remake all the stuff I had made previously.

I'm still bummed out that I never went back to finish the level, but if a /v/4 ever gets produced then I'll try to revive the idea. The worst thing that happens is that I'm unable to use the title I had used previously, but it wouldn't be hard to come up with something else. Props to the one anon who decided to finish the only sublevel I had made. It wasn't gonna start from SMB3 right away, but he did his best.

I may have semi-figured out on replacing the graphics on SMB3 as a early head-start in case if we ever do Super Mario/Moot /V/ros. 3.

After I did the usual stuff with YY-CHR, I can just rip the bitmap ripped from NES into the new .bmp file. And when it's time to start a new game together, you can just simply copy and paste the edited bitmap file into the NES sprite according to correct arrangements.

The big question is do I use the sprite ideas from SMW into SMB3? (i.e. Anon as goomba, Habbo as Koopa, etc.) or do I try and differentiate it a little? No, I'm not going to direct it like OP and not planning it soon. I want to get head start in creating assets case we start doing level making, tile editing, etc.

Funny thing, by total coincidence, there's a level in VIP5 named "Back to the Good Ol' Days" that is basically a tour through SMB3. People will probably think you were inspired by it now. Anyway, that's an awful loss, but the resulting level was still cool.

when I started playtesting, I was decent at SMW (having beat the vanilla game & special zone) but rusty at it. playing through New Vegas forced me to git gud, and now I've made it to Bowser's Castle and the Grand /v/inale. So I've had direct experience with the difficulty curve, which is mostly good throughout. My edits nerfed the few spikes that I thought were excessive. for example, hot/cold temp would be fine if it were later in the game, but it's a little too intense for the forest, which is why I put nerfs in the 2nd half; likewise for Blue Switch Palace.
Having made it to the end, I've got 112 exits. Other than the two broken Star World levels, are there any more? 120 (long hundred) would be a cool number, but idk if that's possible.
