it should've been only multiplayer. even 2-player adventure mode is better than the single player, which they should've scrapped. btw, if you still have your demo somewhere, you can access the whole game by inputting a code for the debug menu. Instead of a proper demo file, the devs put an early build of the game. Too bad the code wasn't discovered until 9 years after the game came out.

ah, they're ok. it's just that completing bash is beyond infuriating. some awful shit must've gone down mid-development.

Haven't played Crash Bash since it came out. Thought it was fun then, but it's probably aged poorly, so I'd rather not taint the fond memories I had with it.
Remastering it with online multiplayer would make for some good content, though.

i thought it was fun enough that i wanted to get it. the locked stages were like b8. i have a hazy memory of trying to use gameshark to "unlock" it and some of the other games on the demo disc. crash bash was on a ps underground disc

>> No.8536146

it's a perfectly fine game, just not a great one. Has some good modes that could do with being fleshed out more, and some boring ones they should have scrapped. FUcK trying to get all the gems, relics etc tho

the game would've been an order of magnitude better had they just cut the ballistix levels

not enough minigames and a few of them were lame like the pogo one but as a kid who was obsessed with crash it was like receiving a full action figure collection of the characters, it could get by being a subpar mario party knockoff.

I was a huge Crash Bandicoot fan as a kid and I played a shitload of those games. CTR is an alltime favorite of mine.
When this was coming out, I remember hearing that the developer was different. But I thought "who cares, it's Crash, it has gotta be good". Then I got this piece of shit. Didn't play another new Crash game till the remasters.

So this game taught me to pay attention to who is actually making the game, so lesson learned.

There exists a debug cheat that gives a level select/cheat menu that lets you choose the other minigames on the demo.

if it were just crashball, without all the of all those stupid RNG gimmicks like n. gin and the tilting platform that fuck you over every 5 seconds, that would've still been bearable. In multiplayer, they are still bad because of the stages fixed camera. Player 1 has a giant advantage from his clear viewpoint. No system link support, so whoever else played is forced on that shitty side view.

>devs matter
Had the exact same epiphany when I got it. The thing that bothered me most was that this ended up being a ps1 release, since it put a nasty dent on crash's otherwise pristine ps1 legacy.

>> No.8537649

I have to admit, though, it is sort of an achievement that this game still manages to piss people off 20 years after its release. It had some real potential.

The adventure mode is very painfully and difficult in places
I really like the crate bash levels and the polar bear levels as a kid though

Tank levels and the pinball levels were the worst
I played as crash and crash was especially bad for the tank levels

huh, apparently the level name is a real historical reference. but it could just be a coincidence. it's hard to imagine that these devs wouldve put in that much thought into an otherwise atrocious level.

>> No.8538530

>>8538501
definitely.
Tiny and kong are generally regarded as the best. they have massive damage in the tank levels, can throw the furthest in crates, and have the best push on polar bears. Supposedly, they also have a "double shockwave" in ballistix, but i could never figure out exactly how that made their pulses any better. Their only downside is being a tad slower in pogo. Crash/Coco are ok in everything, but suck at tanks. The doctors are mediocre overall (good at crates, ok in tanks, terrible in polar). Dingo/Rilla are the worst. Their only redeeming stat is double shot in tanks.
