Good nintentions is a fun book to read, but Jeremy Parish has let his shitty leftist politics leak more and more into his already dry videos.

I like the old Retronauts. The ones with Bob Mackey, Scott Sharkey, and random guests from 1up/GFW/Ziff Davis extended universe.
Bob Mackey is the problem, not Jeremy Parish

the nes works books though? yeah, they're fine, but they don't have anything that hasn't already been said in 100 other books.

Jokes on you, I always disliked him, way back during his Toastyfrog days.

I've read some of his game boy works entries, and while some of them to me smell like they were prematurely dismissed in the interest of a quick turnaround of content, I don't necessarily find his efforts particularly terrible. What problem do you have with his work? I mean, writing for cumrags like polygon is surely a blemish, but what issue do you have with him in particular? I really don't know of anything except GBW and these books.

It literally isn't. He will drop a tidbit in just about every one of his videos. Just because you're blind to it or approving, doesn't mean it isn't there.

I learned what castle doctrine was from his video on Renegade. I wasn't really bothered there as it's a game about urban gang violence, but bringing it up again in video on H.E.R.O., a game about rescuing spelunkers, certainly felt like a wide stretch.

Yeah, but before Bob Mackey shows up, they don't talk about politics.
It'd be Chris Kohler, Jeremy Parish, Scott Sharkey
Sharkey would make jokes about being ronald reagan, even if he was probably a democrat voter.
Kohler wouldn't start talking about politics, and Jeremy never had a reason to bring it up.
The only problem is how much of the old shows is dedicated to virtual console releases in 2008, which are completely irrelevant

I like it when he give relevant historical context to the game and why it was made for a better cultural understanding, but yeah sometimes he goes a bit far off the deep end and I'm left wondering how he got there in the first place. Not everyone lived through the 80s so knowing what it was really like is nice, but he needs to keep things relevant.

To answer your question OP, the books are literally just the transcripts of his videos with a couple of pictures. Word for word. If you've watched the videos at all there's 0 new content in the books. The photography is somewhat decent but its nothing super out there

I wrote Jeremy Parish off as a sissyboy who never lifted once in his life when I saw his review of the Fist of the North Star game on the Game Boy and said something about how Jojo is a "pastiche of hypermasculinity"
