Is it too hard?

Also this boxart kind of sucks. It's nice art but it's too generic.

The B-team made this game. Not to mention it having console limitations.

If it's too hard then maybe it's not so spoiling to try out the ROMhack that allows weapon-switching? As well as the one that removes slowdown.

The game is not hard, it is insufferable due to the dogshit slowdown. You get slowdown from the first fuckin zombie that pops out of the ground.
Play the SA-X romhack or the Saturn version.
Or better yet, play the only good Makaimura game, pic related. Absolute masterpiece. The rest fuckin suck

You say that like it's not one of the best shooter-platformer series.

Having to replay through the entire game to get to the end boss kills it for me. The NES game only made you replay the last level. Never played the arcade versions.

Looping bullshit is a credit-feeding staple from the arcades, like continues and scoring systems. Just forget about the last boss, or find a save state if you care that much.

Not hard, PSP game is harder. My only issue with Super is the extremely long autoscroller.

it's perfectly hard up until trying to kill the fake final boss of loop 2 with the bracelet. right there it becomes too hard.
then the final boss is perfectly hard again

Despite being a child and not making it too far (Level 2 raft section filtered me) I played this game a ton.

Once I got older and emulators became a thing I finally beat this one. Really enjoyed it. I don't think the game is too hard, you just have to put in the time and get good at jumping.

Also, skipping the red devils when you can is absolutely a good idea. And never grab the torch weapon.

You have never even played these games let alone 1CCd them. Dai Maikamura is vastly superior to every entry in the series. The SNES hardware is not capable of running these games properly

It has some trickier platforming that requires mastering the double jump but the bosses and enemy AI in general aren't as challenging as previous entries.
Also has too many slow tedious autoscroller gimmicks making replaying it a slog.

I'm pretty sure the artist who did the cover for Mega Man 1 NES did this one as well. They were just given more time for Super GnG's illustration.

I like the cover. It exemplifies the western localization look of Japanese games from the era.

The game is pretty damn hard, but it is beatable. The problem is how slow the game tends to be.

>> No.8502908

>>8500974
>Is it too hard?
No. The game is difficult, sometimes incredibly so, but it's never "too hard." All the enemy placements and obstacles are designed in such a way that the patterns can be perfectly overcome without getting hit, it just requires patience and getting really practiced with how the jumping works. The key to this game is mastering the jumping strategies; they're deeper than you think. Here's a couple of simple ones:
>Not sure if an enemy or trap is going to pop up when you make a jump onto a pillar or whatever? Jump towards it, then double-jump away from it halfway in the air.
>Something is chasing you and you can't get the right angle/it has a lot of health? Run away, jump once and immediately turn and fire off a couple of shots, then turn back by the time you land and keep running, then repeat.
Also remember that you can initiate the double-jump at ANY moment after the first jump, unlike basically every game ever. You can leap off a cliff, then at the last moment double-jump to get a cheeky or clutch angle at something.

i really don't like these games and I'm tired of pretending that I should

>> No.8503173

try the GBA port in Arrange mode. it has new/remade levels and removes slowdown, and only one loop. you really notice how empty the levels are in SGnG after that.. the GBA exclusive levels feel a lot busier.

Well the prerequisites for enjoying GnG are:
>arcade 1CC mentality, besides being intended, you appreciate the RNG as making the earlier levels more interesting on your retrys
>you like run n gun games
>you like platform-action games
>you want something inbetween these genres

Which did you lack? I don't think the series fails to satisfy this taste at all.

Not really. The other GnG covers at least make it clear he uses throwing weapons. This one could easily be misconstrued as a slasher. It does show the theme and art of the game well though.

I've beaten this game on the first loop, and I felt pretty satisfied with the game like that.
I find playing games without intention on beating them to be more enjoyable, that way I don't have to get angry at yet another thing in life. I suck and that's fine by me. I'm too old for that shit.
It's a beautiful game and aside from the slowdown(idgaf about that anyway) it feels very well made.

Man, whatever its faults I would take Super GnG's cover art over >>8503561 any day. I love how the background matches the first level, especially in terms of atmosphere, it's spot on I think. That stage has always had a mix of dreariness and sillineess that I think the cover capture. I especially like the zombies in the back lurching about in that slovenly way.
I like the knight too overall. I don't mind that its not distinctly Arthur. A knight with is visor down was a pretty appealing image back then to a lot of players. It certainly reached out to me in a way better than the japanese art would have at the time.
My favourite GnG Cover is still pic related, though. The reapers, the skulls, and the demon's head are very threatening and the background is very ominous. The knight is again not clearly arthur and his armour is oddly stylised but I don't mind it overall. I prefer it to the other version of the same image seen here: >>8500997
This art actually lended a bit of dread to playing the c64 version which felt a lot more haunting than most others because of its black background and Tim Follin soundtrack.

I tried the For WonderSwan remake but in a way it feels worse than the original because of how it uses earlier entry assets without much alternation and the "remix" style mechanics. That's right a professional shitty portable game feels better than a decades later amateur game. Sad!
