Despite its short lifespan and having flopped hard, there is some source code for 3DO games that was released to the public.
The Ur-Quan Masters was built on top of the source code for the 3DO version of Star Control II, as the source code for the original DOS version was lostñ.
The source code for the infamous 3DO port of Doom was released in 2014 under the MIT License.

Something has resulted in two source ports, OptiDoom and Phoenix Doom.

3DO had some genuinely good originals that were later released on PlayStation and Saturn such as D, Need for Speed, Lucienne's Quest and the first console version of Policenauts.

This is a serious problem for getting into 3DO. Many of its former exclusives were quickly ported to PlayStation, often with additional enhancements.

I never said that the fact that its usually in French is what makes it inferior. The lack of music does hurt it to a point, though. I'd gladly play either the SNES or Sega Genesis versions instead.

No music is a downgrade though, and if you don't speak French, the game being in French isn't very helpful.

So? How does that help anyone? Are people wanting to source port the OS for the 3DO?

The first Gex was good, and is the best version because it has actual saving and not the password shit (not sure why it was changed).

>> No.8503834

>>8503792
3DO saved to internal memory while PSX saved to memory cards. I guess devs believed at the time that not everyone would buy a memory card so a password system would have to be implemented instead. The just did not go all in like Ubisoft went with Rayman to create both password and memory card save systems.
All of this 100% does not excuse lack of proper save system on Saturn, given that it too saved to internal memory. Lazy frauds.

There were a few good games for it. Mainly it's just fun to shit on the 3DO because it makes wannabe hipsters seethe.
