Probably.

Given that it's a Nintendo character, Square was forced to make a game with engaging gameplay instead of an attempt to be Disney.

I liked Inindo

The story sucks and the combat isn't even that interesting, but it has all this extra ninja ass shit you can do like burn a prefecture's food supply or poison the water or whatever, and then halfway through the game opens up and you realize you were actually playing like a Nobunaga's Ambition style strategy game the whole time, except you were just one guy instead of a daimyo, and now that you're important enough you start advising daimyos and controlling battlefield strategy and stuff

What engaging gameplay? The game is easy as shit and "press jump upon attacking" nonsense is something only ADHD kids can enjoy, it adds nothing to it being RPG, and if anything hinders the game.

He's a boomer who refuses to call FFVI FFIII cuz that's how they localized it in the US.

The answer is Chrono Trigger. It was specifically devised to be newcomer friendly.

Levellng up is supposed to be a last resort for retards who can't beat the game using the resources available. Point is Mario RPG lacks interesting RPG mechanics like customization, planning or resource management. It's an RPG for people who don't like RPGs.

Not original choices, but Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger are my favorites. Followed by Lufia 2, Secret of Mana, and Super Mario RPG.

There's so many good SNES RPGs though, including a bunch that weren't released in English back in the day. Romancing SaGa 3 and Live A Live are great.

Cope.
The only use for games to be label a certain genre is to give people an idea of what to expect and you're 30 years too late to dissuade the notion that RPGs means stats and level ups
>>8500825
Not him but the writing is consistently charming with a nice simple story, it pretty much defined Bowser and Peaches (to a lesser degree) personality going forward and Geno and Mallow are both enjoyable, the combat is fun enough to keep you engaged with the way attacking and blocking works, there's a lot of side content to enjoy and lots of hidden things to collect and even a few amusing mini-games and puzzles to complete to break everything up for you.
I hate to use memes but it's honestly packed with a lot of SOUL and such. I don't know if I'd personally consider it the best RPG on the SNES but it's a very good game regardless.

but there are so many SNES RPGs that have that, and many of them have either good RPG mechanics (FFV) or good stories (DQV) on top of that. I just couldn't get into Mario RPG...

>> No.8500874

Personally I think the mechanics in SMRPG are great and the story is nothing epic but it's enjoyable and has a lot of effort put into the writing to make it lovable but there's no shame if it's not clicking for you.
