It was certainly the first piece of gaming hardware I owned.

However I had been exposed to gaming in other forms prior to this, I think.

My dad's business partner, a human piece of shit who blackmailled $1 million from my family, gave us an Atari 7800 in the late-80s. It was a hand-me-down. The only game we had was Phantom Panzer II.

but played gameboy more because of the batterylife

I was the same OP. First time I ever played a game was Sonic the Hedgehog on my dad's Game Gear, followed by Sonic 2 on his Mega Drive.

Doom and Skyroads.
Never found Doom disturbing or brutal with its completely over the top amount of blood. Thought the animations looked cool but far too "balloons filled with blood". Ah, good old days of hysteria.

My parents’ DOS-compatible Power Macintosh 6100, which my dad bought as a “Christmas present to the family” in 1994. For those who aren’t familiar with this thing, it was basically two computers in one. You had the Dr. Jekyll Macintosh and the Mr. Hyde IBM-compatible PC, which came in the form of a 486 and 8 MB of RAM jammed onto a NuBus card. This gave me access to the huge world of DOS and later Windows gaming. The first games that I had were all educational games for Mac OS, but I soon discovered Power Pete, then I figured out how to switch between Mac OS and Windows 3.1, and I just went from there.

Unfortunately, in a fashion similar to Tim Cook Apple, the computer relied on some jerry rigged cable to carry out the crucial operation of switching between the PC and Mac systems. If you lost this cable, then you would no longer be able to switch between the DOS card and the Macintosh computer. My parents somehow lost the cable sometime between 2009 and 2011, likely in a spring cleaning where my mom found an “old computer cable”, didn’t know what it was for, and sent it to ewaste. I still have the 6100, and I even have a very rare NuBus VGA card, but the 486 card has been sitting on a shelf for almost 10 years.

My first game system was my mom's old ColecoVision. That's all I had to play on from 1996-1999 until my parents got us a N64 for Christmas. Going from playing stuff like Donkey Kong and Venture, to Mario 64 and OoT in one quantum leap was like the equivalent of a monkey suddenly learning how to talk overnight. Pretty sure some of my synapses are still fried from that. Zoomers will never understand.

Bio Menace was the first videogame I ever played.

> Sega Gamegear

I remember when a kid in my 5th grade class showed up to school with a brand new Game Gear. He had Mortal Kombat and one of those retarded giant lenses that acted as a "screen zoomer". I had seen and played Game Boy games before that, but seeing a portable that played games in color was the first time a videogame truly blew my mind.

My older brothers had an NES but they wouldn't let me play it. Eventually the cartridge slot got worn out so it would only work for a few minutes if at all.
I got pic related for christmas when I was 6. It came with Sonic Classics which had Sonic 1, 2 and Mean Bean Machine.

Late 90s, had an Ames near my house, only place i ever saw game gear stuff for sale. Already was familiar with sanic from my cousin's genesis, the cartoons and owning 3D Blast for PC. Really wanted a GG every time id be in there. Was up at a cabin my grandmother had and we took a trip into local redneck town mall with my grandmothers brother and wife in their pickup truck. They had an Ames there as well and had the Majesco Core GG models for sale for 30$. My "aunt" (what i called my grandmas, brothers, wife) said she'd get it for me, which was surprising because they were very scringy when it came to money. Was super happy and sat in the cabin with no games but still put batteries in just to turn it on.

On way back to my house, stopped at the local Ames near me and got Sonic 2 as my first game for it. Eventually got every game they sold at that chain for it when the stores all went out of buisness.

Got 2 og model GGs later on, but need repairs while my Core model still runs perfectly fine.

One time there was a power outage at my house and i brought my GG out to use as a light source for my family because shit was bright as fuck. Actually used it as a flashlight on more then one occasion.
