Do we really need a thread for this hack weekly? The real version is found on Tomato's site and the group he handed it too, with the full download. OP for some reason has only part of the help files. You want the MSU-1 patch which their link isn't including. Absolutely no idea why you removed most of the files unless to pass it off as your work, which it isn't, but if you're gonna inform people, link them to the proper stuff.

Hello. I'm not the one who made this thread.
I never said that my fork is the real version I simply shared what I did.
I already outlined why the html files are included and streamlined in the other thread.
They were simply irrelevant to gameplay.
Finally, I don't care about claiming any work. I simply want other people to be able to play T-Edition while maintaining Mato's translation including names and dialogue and not tampering with anything else in his patch that might break the romhack.

Anyway, to anyone wondering, there's still no update regarding the fix for the EX Costume changing menu. For now, the penultimate update I uploaded is completely playable from beginning to end and EX Mode, bar any spelling and grammatical mistakes you may see in both the game and the files.
Just always keep in mind that if you want to use a specific costume in EX Mode, you will have to change it in the base T-Edition ROM before porting over to EX Mode.

I had, for the A3, 14 different versions since December 10, that r3 is a fucking lie, it's on at least r5 right now since r was added there. And among them three broke the game unknowingly thanks to the lack of playtesting from the ""maintenance team"" despite literally changing a chunk of the script.
The one on the OP has like 5 and almost all of them except the first and the latest are completely optional on top of actually literally maintaining the translation. All of them are also playable without breaking the game.
The msu is fucking buggy with regards to Inn music and in some areas, takes 3GB of space, and does not play properly in playback in the music player. And good luck using it on actual hardware.
Meanwhile, snes9x's fix is free, and the music patch ips is free as well.
Unless you're a fucking music autist either fix will allow you to play on hardware and any other emulator and you won't notice any fucking difference since you haven't played it beforehand anyway.
It's mindnumbing how some retards like you just spout bullshit without actually knowing what they are talking about.

So, instead of telling the truth, the description now misleads the player into thinking that the entire party gets buffed?

>> No.8461021

>>8461005
Hey there, is it actually misleading?
Asura's effect is that she'll randomly cast either protect, blink, or reraise on the entire party and I just wanted to make that clearer to the player.
Do you have any suggestion to make it clearer/better? Please take note that there's around 32/33 character limit for that menu.
Or would you prefer the older one?

>> No.8461090

>>8461005
>>8461021
After thinking about it, I can understand why it might be misleading.
Asura actually takes into consideration each member of the party when casting either Protect, Blink, or Reraise and the result might be that two party members have Protect, another Blink, and the last one Reraise, so saying “Party-wide Protect/Blink/Reraise” might put the impression that Asura will only cast one of the three on the entire party.
Formerly, the reason why I changed this stemmed from the original description itself:
"Randomly casts support spells"
And I believe this is misleading as well.
It implies that Asura may randomly cast support spells like how Gilgamesh may randomly cast Excalipoor in FF6 Advance, but actually Asura only casts supportive spells and it's the supportive spell itself that is random.
After a quick brainstorming, maybe it can be further improved to
“Casts random supportive spells” (30 characters)
Or
“May cast Protect/Blink/Reraise” (30 characters)

Since the final update is near, to anyone who may have an input, do you think that Asura's description should be changed/reverted? Is it misleading, confusing, unclear, or anything more?

>> No.8462025

>>8461947

I haven't played any version of this game in 25 years but based on these last several posts I feel somewhat confident that "Randomly casts support spells" is better than what you changed it to. The changed version suggests both that everybody gets the same protective effect AND that everybody gets all three at once instead of a random choice of one of the three, but I gather that both of those are false.

You suggestion of "Casts random supportive spells" is fine but I would tweak that to "Casts random protective spells" since "supportive" is unnecessarily broad. It's fine to want to specify the exact possible choices of spell but I don't think there's room for that here. There's probably a way to refine a little more though... you could maybe say "Random physical protection spells" to rule out Shell and Reflect, that'd be one way. (Could substitute "Rand.", or "magic" for "spells", or maybe "guard"/"guarding" for "protection" to shorten if necessary.) I mean ultimately the player can see the choices after a few uses of whatever this action is anyway right?

>> No.8462074

>>8462025
Hey there. I see, I assumed that using a forward slash indicates "or" and not "and" since I've never encountered a forward slash being used as a substitute for and.
But I understand why it would cause confusion/misunderstanding.
>I mean ultimately the player can see the choices after a few uses of whatever this action is anyway right?
Somewhat. Reraise is somewhat hard to spot since you have to die to know that it's there, but indeed the player will be able to deduce her spells in a few fights.
I like your suggestion of "Random Physical Protection spells" but unfortunately it's too long.
I guess the best thing to do here is to just revert it back to the original since that's how Mato translated it and the HTML outlines which ones she casts anyway. Thank you.

I'm sorry to anyone who got bothered and confused by this. It'll be reverted in the final update which will come soon, I just have to do some testing of the EX Mode's costume changing menu. It will be out before the year ends.

To anyone still interested and waiting, this is the final update for my fork of Mato's English translation of T-Edition. THERE ARE CHANGES DONE TO THE IPS PATCH FILES.
People who previously downloaded a version are, again, advised to read the changes to determine whether this is worth downloading.
Here are the changes:
>Final Fantasy VI T-Edition EX.ips
-EX Mode issue regarding changing costumes is now fixed
The dialogue is no longer invisible and you can now comfortably change costumes (please read below as there's one issue that persists even in the JP version)
>Final Fantasy VI T-Edition.ips
-fixed a few misspelled words in dialogues from WoB to WoR, these dialogues can only be seen once since they are either parts of quests or the story
-capitalized instances of “blue magic” in the achievement room, it’s now [Blue Magic]
-reverted Asura's description change
It is now back to "Randomly casts support spells" to prevent confusion about what she does (consult the HTML to know which spells she may cast)
>newevent.html
-changed instances of "Crystal Orb" and "Crystal Ball" to [Crystal Eye]

This fork maintains Mato’s initial/original English translation and simply does fixes to descriptions, and misspelled, ungrammatical script. Nothing else was changed.
Bugs and issues, as far as what were found and can be fixed, are all fixed.
Also bundled are HTML guide files modified to match Mato's ingame names and information.
The HTML files are streamlined compared to the original JP download and I've removed what I believe were irrelevant to playing T-Edition.
Please be mindful that I tried to mirror the original JP download as much as I can.
The download link has changed because of my carelessness, the old link will no longer be updated, for this, I apologize.
I thank everyone who downloaded the previous versions and I apologize that it took this long to complete, but I'm glad that I managed to "fix" the EX Mode issue.

Other issues left are now minor graphical issues/something that is also in the JP version, most of these are in Mato's readme but for anyone curious:
Minor Graphical issues (simply entering+exiting menu or area should fix some)
>text overflow/bleed in status/other menu
>Relic menu sometimes grays out but still being able to equip one (also in JP)
>Relics that auto-optimize show odd text
>Some costumes will look odd in some areas; palette overload (change party lead as a “fix”, also in JP)
>A complete 255 (technically 256) Rage count will show "0" in the menu
>Using Libra on "Tonberries" will result to an empty name

Also in the JP version (doesn't break the game/save)
>Sky Pirate costume for Locke cannot be selected in EX Mode's costume changing menu (workaround is to enter EX mode with this costume already equipped on Locke)
>Coliseum bets are broken for some items (usually the ones at the very end of the Inventory; mostly relics)
Then, if you are using the musicfix.ips to play in hardware/any other emulator but snes9x, music is broken in one very specific instance:
>Coming from the Ancient Castle and entering the Save Point Area in the Cave to the Ancient Castle
Weird New Game+ issue (NOTE: THIS WILL BE A SPOILER IF YOU PLAN TO PLAY NG+, IT'S SOMEWHAT GAMEBREAKING BUT VERY PREVENTABLE)
>Changing Relm's costume outside the Falcon will remove her from your party and put her back into the Falcon, this means that if you change costumes with just Relm in the party, you'll be softlocked.
Finally, reports, screenshots, videos, and actually diving into the code of the romhack prove that the Sketch Bug exists.
However, it is VERY RARELY triggered.
I have never encountered it between finishing the game twice and playtesting for this project.
That is all, thank you, and please enjoy T-Edition to its fullest whether you're a first time player, NG+ player, or a veteran.
Happy Holidays!

Ah, I forgot, to anyone who is wondering, I have not touched the game's code nor implemented any external/additional patches, so any other optional patches that is claimed to work on top of any other version of T-Edition's English translation, provided that they did the same and has Mato's Version as base, SHOULD work for this version as well.
Moreover, the save files should be compatible across all the versions of the download I provided. I have no plans of adding any other patches. But please still be cautious when doing this.
Also, I have recently done a curious google search and discovered that aside from snes9x v1.60, bsnes also offers a "fix" for the music issues: simply enable Echo Shadow Ram in Compatibility.
Settings>>Compatibility>>Echo Shadow RAM>>restart bsnes
I have tested FF8 Man with the Machine Gun and FF10 Servant of the Mountain, the ones with the worst music issues, and they both sounded fine using bsnes-mt v1.3.3r3.
If you are anxious about an external patch, like the music fix ips patch, unknowingly breaking the game somewhere yet dislike using snes9x, you may try this "fix" as well.

So now, for anyone who is trying T-Edition for the first time, either a veteran of the vanilla or just a casual player, please visit Narshe's Beginner's Hall and talk to the scholars, they reveal new info about some of the changes done in the romhack.
Telling the counter that you are an expert will also change the said scholars' dialogue and reveal further information.

Yes. Leaves min-maxing out of the window. But if you still don't know, you can also spam them in battle

Yeah they balance it by boosting the stats and have them not change throughout the game. The min-max logic of the old game was that you should avoid leveling up as much as possible then wait until you find the +2 stat level up magicite you want then go nuts. You can then craft instantely stupidly powerful characters that way.

Shockingly, the t-edition doesn't affect the damage and defense that much in the end.

You can use him as your white mage the entire game if you want to. This means you don't have to rely upon Terra-Celes anymore. Although, they are still stupidly OP and most teams still use Terra-Celes anyways. You can use Morph and hit 10,000 with an elemental spell by mid-game.

Not exactly but basically. This romhacks idea of “adding difficulty” is over-emphasizing status effects, “hard-scripted outcomes” with battle AI and, above all else, rebalancing content in a mostly deceptive way. I mean read the thread, the goofy nigger who keeps the thread alive/replies to himself constantly gets his panties in a twist every time somebody points out how obnoxious and misguided this approach to making “a difficult mod” is

>> No.8488004

Just so you get an idea: the GameCube using Snes9x 2010 (which is based off of Snes9x 1.52 plus some optimizations and speedhacks) can run even Yoshi's Island, a SuperFX2 game, at full speed, whereas the N3DS using Snes9x 2005 (based off of Snes9x 1.43, with a much less accurate sound core than later versions) cannot run FFVI full speed in various scenes.

Mato's readme tells you of which ROM to use with the proper CRC.
A bad checksum using snes9x is normal, if I recall right, since the patch changes the ROM's checksum. But you should still be able to run the game.
Make you sure you're not patching both patches into one ROM.

I'm from /tg/, I'm so sorry he moved to your board. We also do not know what his fucking problem is. Besides being a tranny, the person he's so deranged about is a perfectly mediocre writer, but something about it just turned this guy into a total schizo.
Also, his real name isn't Andrew, that's something schizo-kun made up because he couldn't find the tranny in question's real male name.
