I have a Toshiba CRT/DVD combo unit similar to the one in OP. The TV itself only has composite input on the front.

Any chance that the internal DVD player uses RGB or Component? If so it would probably be possible to tap into that.

Also consider a dust cover or something for both the PS1 and the DC. Keep the UV rays off. Front of the Gamecube is going to yellow too.

I used to love "beside the window" setups but it yellowed all my consoles (except for my SNES, which was kept underneath the TV). Now I prefer the basement dweller setup.

Honestly, im not sure what the name is anymore, I got it a while ago. Its a super famicom exclusive puzzle game where you and your opponent have an actual health meter and if that gets to 0, they lose in the same way as if you were to hit the top of the screen in a normal puzzle game. Your blocks are swords and potions and spell scrolls and if you match them, you deal damage to the opponent or heal yourself. If you do a combo, a little cutscene will show you attacking your opponent. Its kinda similar to Tetris Battle Gaiden also on the SFC.

>>8482192
No, its an actual controller. It was for the Nintendo Super System, which was essentialy a glorified SNES demo-kiosk released as an arcade machine in the early days of the system. Had timed versions of games like F-Zero and Mario World on it. The controller actually feels really nice and I got it from a game convention a long time ago with the intents to see if I could get an adapter rigged up to use it as an actual SNES controller and just cause its neat. Only problem is they used some kind of foam insulation material or something inside it that makes the d-pad insanely hard to push down on, but it can be removed.

>>8482235
I honestly have no idea if its official or not, I found it for a dollar at a thrift store up in bumfuck nowhere redneck town. The artwork is also what attracted me to it since its the old manga/pre anime style. All the art seems original and it uses some of the early, early characters from before the franchise kicked it off big, but I cant find any branding on it, so its either a bootleg or was released in Japan only in the super, super early days when the franchise first launched.

Parents don't want a huge CRT set? You probably don't even need to move out to get in on the fun. Sony made some nice 20" consumer sets. I had a Sony KV-20FV12 when I was in a university dorm room, it was quite small, about the size of a CRT computer monitor. Most smaller sets only have composite but that one came with S-video (I never used it at the time because I didn't realize what a huge upgrade it was over composite, but honestly composite is good enough to satisfy the retro gaming bug). You could pick up something similar and just put it in your room, it would be really comfy. Small, high quality consumer sets are seriously overlooked.

If you are really, really short on space, RCA made some decent 13" sets, but those are mono speaker and composite only.

it's all been said a million times but Trinitrons are easy to find and nearly the standard, avoid the silver flat screen models unless you can verify that it has good geometry. JVC D series, Panasonic Gaoo, Mitsubishi and NECs are also pretty good generally speaking.

I know your pain, that's basically my whole room in one sentence. Left speaker on the floor, right on the windowsill instead of proper stands, piles of CDs and games wherever they fit, etc.
The only things that are properly placed here are my bed, the TV with the entertainment center underneath (thankfully it's enough to house all my consoles, an amp and a CD player) and the desk with my computer. Would love a big bookshelf to put all my shit there and some space for a CRT, but can't do much in 9 square meters.

I still personally Wario Land 1 as SML3 (I know that's the subtitle too but most people wouldn't like it to the Mario Land games) and I think it's a major step up from ML2 in terms of having challenge and making a bigger and "better" overworld map. apparently the original sticks/buttons were very cheap feeling upon launch
they're easy to swap out but you shouldn't have to dump money in to a 600$ product

i paid on credit +amazon gift cards
if you love neogeo you might due better out of the box with an og aes and multicard ($100)

however a quick plug and powerup solution means i actually use it quite a bit
i don't like having huge arcade machines about but this one is nice - my dad is into pinball machines and arcade hardware
i just go for the jamma pcb and supergun to save space

id say its above the arcade 1up by a considerable margin, although unless you're ok with trying to cobble together a hylostickX thumbdrive for the rest of the good neo titles
its not gonna be for everyone

mvs-1b board and supergun will be cheaper and you can use a hyperkin genesis hdmi cable for upscaling for a comparable experience

im never selling mine, but i cannot in good faith run around telling people its a "must buy"

id recommend it over the neocd ($300+)
and its far superior to the neoXgold (sold and non-serviceable battery)

Bad comparison.

Most high-end desktop monitors are calibrated from the factory for ~80-100 nits to reduce eye strain, improve gamma curve, and color accuracy. Dimly lit room recommended.

Viewing in daylight, you need to crank up the brightness and contrast to 250-400 nits, which is what most consumer CRT's came set from the factory. They also needed to look good in a brightly lit showroom.

That basically involves buying a mini CRT like I had, a SNES and N64, and a bunch of games for them. Thing is, I'm a bit demoralized from the fact that many people say these consoles are beginning to rot after 20 years, their processors are dying, their CPUs are going bad, etc. How can I justify rebuilding my collection if the shit I buy may have the high chance of just dying soon? Hmmm. Well, I'd suggest going to thrift stores for crt just because it's hard to find a good affordable one online, especially when the people selling them use words like retro, and game player with it because they tend to be scalpers. As far as consoles go, try looking online for console only, and buy 3rd party accessories for it like the ac adapter and picture cables. I wouldn't invest in buying games however because they can become pricey, unless if you want the actual games. But I would buy flash carts instead, they are much cheaper than buying a lot of games and can hold multiple games at once, some can hold the entire library of games with the right sdcard. I wish you lived where I lived, there are so many CRTs in drive ways that work practically perfectly. Just sitting there.

With proper maintenance, which of course I mean replacing capacitors every 30 years or so most retro consoles will out live you. Also, make sure to not use shitty knock off shit with your console. A lot of these repros you see for cheap and even high dollar modern games on retro console like Demons of Asteborg came on carts without beveled edges and you'll kill your cart slot putting one of them in a few times. Also, chink ever drivers. Most of them still run at incorrect voltages. Won't hurt anything right away but a few years of that might burn something out. Outside of that I don't see SNES or N64s burning out anytime soon.

Looks great. I’m glad to see the D-series getting some appreciation over the past 2 years, they’re really nice sets. How much (if anything) did you pay? What kind of switchbox did you get?

Switchbox is : pic related.
I had to buy some Y splitters for the sound output on the box because there's only the one, but it needs to hookup to two inputs on the TV for S-Video and component to both get sound.

The D-SERIES is a 32D303 from 2002.
It was the "home teather" of an old boomer who died of Alzheimer recently. That guy was taken care of by a friend of mine for the last 10 years and she said he never went in the basement where the damn thing was.

I'm confident it's been mostly unused or has under 200 hours on it. Didn't pay a dime. It isn't perfect: It's got some curving on the far left and right and it has a 4/5° clockwise tilt to it, but like I care!

I calibrated it with 240p suite and games are even better looking than when I was a kid. Nobody I knew had quality sets like that back then.

I miss some aspects of VHS (ability to fast forward naturally, no region locking, etc), but overall, DVDs were far superior. I’m not gonna throw away my VHS tapes but I also won’t bother acquiring new ones.

Nice switch. It even has optical audio.
Does it transcode composite/S-video to component and the other way around? Or are they completely separate so you get 12 video inputs and three separate outputs?

He probably meant that you get a preview in real time instead of skipping like DVDs do.
It's not impossible in the digital realm, albeit slower. PS3 can fast-forward BDs at 1.5x speed, for example.

It doesn't convert anything. Whatever come in as input, goes out of the corresponding output.

It automatically switches to the proper input when I power on a given game system; there is no need to manually select. I am using a combination of component and svideo cables and they both work well. I did do detailed testing while using the same consoles hooked through the box or straight through the tv and there is no difference.

The output from the box does both Component, Composite and S-Video but only has ONE set of Red and White composite audio out connection. I had to split it to both respective tv input and now I'll never need to play with the damn cables ever again!
