Welcome to The Garage, a thread where fans of racing vidya can discuss their favourite arcade, sim, kart, and any other kinds of racing games (this is /vr/, so any PC/6th gen game up to 2007 goes!). If you’re looking for something new to play or are new to the genre ask other Anons for recommendations and remember to gear up and have fun.

The previous thread had its licence revoked: >>8431853

>Interested in a series to get started with?
https://pastebin.com/Vke5tf9e

Remember to bump, /vr/ has been faster as of late and threads get archived much quicker now. Don't be shy: ask questions, share experiences! If anyone has ideas for community events, speak up!

Thread challenge, set by Devil Z:
>Gran Turismo 3
>Arcade Mode
>Trial Mountain
>Any A-Class car.

>What's that?
A track and game is chosen and people can challenge for times on it.

How does Virtua Racing run on MAME? I've been thinking about playing it when I get my new PC setup. The game looks really well made for it being a pioneer with 3D vidya.

I'm doing it lads. I'm fucking doing it. 100%ed every other class, now it's big boy time.

Phantom sure makes you reassess the tracks here. Porta Kora is more fun suddenly, Stanza is still GOAT, but Mega Mall goes from easy to annoying, and P-Mar goes from fun challenge to dread inducing.

Maybe it's just SE physics fucking with me but whatever. Gonna 100% every Classic League class after this too.

Yes, yes it is. Play the DC version not the PC version though.

I beat the Pro circuit this morning. Just need to beat the Bonus circuit (which shouldn't be super-hard with the Alien Beetle).

This is why i don't like NFS2 among the other games. Track design was made with complete disregard for game's physics and faster cars tend to fly into the fucking space on the long straights at any elevation change, it's like they have no mass or downforce.

What a fucking shit OP image. Couldn't even tell there was a new thread.

gt2 is better

>> No.8481268

Using my autistic powers I have deduced there is a handling tuning setup in the PC version of need for speed high stakes that gets it reasonably close to the PSX version, though the PSX version has some additional stabilising I cannot account for during tuning. Handling speed +6% and suspension -40% (with no other tweaks) gets you there. Does however mean - much like on PSX - snowy ridge with weather is fucking brutal on traction.

True it was especially infuriating in the Greece and Nepal tracks

Honestly Hot Pursuit tracks aren't that much better, Atlantica, Aquatica and Hometown are fun but most of them are too long, especially the Summit

Any cool lesser-known /vr/ motorcycle games? There's a lot of mode-7esque racers but none seem to play all that well.

Probably by design since in the mid to late 90s a lot of kids didn't have controllers for PC and just relied on KBM.
