This isn't a legit setup, I only have it like this for the photo op (although I might keep in this spot later once I'm actually ready to set it up for real).

Also the PC is probably too new for /vr/ (it's built with 2008-ish parts).

Ignore the RGB, I attached a Dell AT101W after this was taken.

I can't lie, I still have an attachment to my childhood media though. I haven't gotten rid of them. I have lots of games and movies sitting in a closet, but as long as I don't need the space for anything else they're chilling in there.

Yeah I know they're a mess. They used to be in those drawers in that little thing off to the right but they got totally displaced eventually by the SNES/Genesis/NES/N64 games in there. Does anyone have a good solution for storing controllers? I'd love to have them out and available vs piled up in a bin, or worse--piled up in a pile.

Dimension 3000 from 2005, with some upgrading it can be surprisingly good at even emulation. I mostly use it for old windows and DOS games, once I get the gpu in soon, I’ll use the 5” color tv in the photo for emulation from the computer, as the gpu has s-video out.

Discords for local friendships? Everyone I meet there is thousands of miles away, or a total faggot in some way. Conventions are once again MIA due to COVID, with everything that was starting up again killed off by omicron variant spreading like oil over water.

I think it's just being an adult and not being in school anymore. You spend more time focusing on developing your career and your family, and in my case, no one in my circle cares about this shit except me, barring friends who live thousands of miles away. Sucks man, but I guess that's life. Makes sense why people are into sports and religion; It's an easy framework around which one can build bonds between themselves without trying too hard. Doing something which is both heavily introverted and which is an uncommon hobby for older people (and then being picky about which games you play too, thus further narrowing your options) makes for a difficult job of finding people. Ah, but this is not battlestations, so I won't speak further of it.

What's a good way to handle PS1 boxes? I'm collecting JP games I like (because it's cheaper), and I've been having trouble with the fact that there's like 2 sizes: the regular jewel cases we know, and this slightly bigger case. I'm not even counting the long box releases, it's weird that something like Digimon for example, has every case be standard jewel case size, minus Digimon World 3. Do you organize by box type? By series? Do you say fuck it and go alphabetically?
Would love to see some pics of displays, too, to help give me inspiration for my own. Been using some cheap buildable shelf from Amazon just until I can clean up and find the time to buy new furniture.

Fever is cool because it’s on a bunch of platforms. And I’ve got it on all of them.
Unfortunately I don’t have all of the consoles to display every port of tsu running at once :P

And yeah it has a PIP mode built in.

The screen on the left can be any resolution. But the one on the right is limited to standard def.

It just halves the vertical resolution of both images and puts them side by side. Then you hear the audio of whatever is selected. It’s pretty handy for watching TV while gaming and stuff

The TV is a kv34xbr960. It’s what ow oils consider the absolute best of the best when it comes to consumer CRT TVs. And is certainly the best for anything that size.

People seem to overlook them because they aren’t natively very good for 240p and interlaced video. Being laggy and fugly

But with a retrotink 5X, the TV can do a pixel perfect lagless display (with real scanlines where applicable) of anything from 240p to 1080i. It’s effectively a big ass 34 inch 16:9 multi-scan monitor now. And I love it

I know this is probably bait, but that's fair.
There's a nice satisfying feeling, being able to have your room be a reflection of a time or a mood you love. Having things be organized and pretty makes me feel all the more comfy sleeping and waking up in it.
Weirdly enough, I've been focusing on a PS1 collection, even though I totally missed that trend as a kid. It just really resonates with me now, and that time period of the late 90s. With it and the GBC displays I'm planning, it feels like I'm recreating something that I missed out of from my childhood, cuz I was poor as shit
That said, two walls worth of shelves feels like more of a liability than anything else. It's impressive, but that's a fuckton of games.

I did, but bad times as well since i moved in with her after high school to take care to help her out after recovering from a broken leg, but she quickly began to develop dementia related issues. Add that with the fact she did have anger and emotional issues, it resulted in some tiresome days (like when she came at me with a knife or literally flooded the house from the top floor due to not knowing how to turn off the bathroom sink) I was dissapointed when my mom (her daughter) put her in a memory care facility and she always wanted to come home. I tried to convince my mom to let her, but she never did. At least she was only there for a year before she died so she got to keep being in her home longer than most. Had some rough times with her as a kid too, but even those i can look back on with humor now and there were certainly many good memories i miss with her.

Probably both.
I noticed the backlight before.
Its and older sony bravia. I added a power conditioner and cleaned the screen.
It seems like my image quality really went up.

These but now they are sky high in price.
When I bought them they werel less than half of that and on sale
It's legit cheaper to build your own. Particle board is still cheapish

They are like OLED but worse in every way with higher latency/response time than even LCDs of the time.

Take the buildpill
I decided to build a pretty simple table for my CRT and it's much cheaper and even nicer looking than many other solutions.

I have an amateur background in woodworking, but even if you go into it completely unskilled you can probably make something that does the job and looks nice if you buy a good stain.
Wood prices are fucked right now, but still, you could get a plywood sheet and have it be cheaper than buying.

our 50hz bullshit for retro consoles, unless you mod consoles to have a 50hz switch or can mod them otherwise to play NTSC games on PAL systems

Just use RGB? Most EU TVs have SCART and that accepts RGB. All RGB runs at 60Hz. I don't see why 50Hz consoles make having CRTs a moot point, if anything it's the other way around.

Nothing too crazy,
My dad did a lot of woodworking and DIY during his childhood and kept up with it for his whole life, so I grew up with a lot of wood around me and picked up some of the skills.
I've worked on two major construction projects, but honestly I've always just been the extra set of hands.

It can be intimidating, but honestly the best thing you can do is jump into it and start small, like a really basic table or bench.
My best piece of advice would be to look up your local tool library, it's great if you don't want to spend the money or space on tools.

Damn, thanks anon. I just picked up a 14'' CRT and was planning on making a basic table with some extra 'shelves' inside for my main consoles.

It's not that all RGB runs at 60Hz, it can run at both 50 or 60 depending on the source. The thing you don't need to care about when using RGB is color encoding systems (PAL/NTSC).
Most newer European CRTs (from the 90s onwards) have no problem with 60Hz over RGB and even NTSC composite signal. There are some (usually budget ones) that only accept PAL/50Hz, but if you're pretty much safe if you stick to bigger brands.
Now with consoles, it all depends on the hardware. PS1 and PS2 for example output whatever the game runs in, so if you launch a JP/NA game on a PAL console you'll just get NTSC over composite and 60Hz RGB. Some PAL PS2 games even have a 60Hz mode and it doesn't output PAL60 over composite, just straight NTSC.

That speaker deserves a better place than the corner of your room. Try to work on the acoustics a bit, I guarantee you'll be happier with the setup.

Very cringe how you have each of those consoles on display in their own little section. So much wasted space. It's not like they could all be plugged in to the TV anyway. Speaker placement is abysmal as well. Never put shit on top of them, unless you never turn it up past 5

Spent the better part of the day hooking this up and doing my best to wire management it. Everything is on gscartsw/gcompsw so it's auto on. I don't have the HDMI consoles hooked up yet. Do plan to plug them into the flat screen I have mounted on the wall. Also plan to switch out the TV to a mint 36XBR200 which is why I have it set for component out. I am 1 input short of being able to play in all the analog consoles. I left the TG16 unplugged for now. I ordered the gcompsw with the 8 inputs vs the one I have which only has 4. That's on back order till May though, so when that comes ill go back in, add the bigger comp switch, then be able to plug everything in and have room for a mister or something.

Speaking of mister, if when I go to move and the Mister has more or less perfect cores for N64 and back and I can use SNAP adapters for real controllers, I don't think i'll bother with hooking up all the 64bit and less consoles. This was a chore, and now I think about it I didn't even run an extra power cable to play 32x games. FUCK
