First game is good, but MM2 is clearly better in evetything.

In my opinion is:

MM4 > MM6 > MM3 > MM5 > MM2 > MM

>> No.8467394

was playing MM6 and genuinely loved it. i feel like game reviewers constantly lambasting new mega man entries back then for being "more of the same" is why we got shit like X7 and Zero 4. glad we're in an era where people don't feel as pressured to screw with what isn't broken just because game critics need to find a way to knock a winning formula

Great argument, but how did you do it? Share your secrets.

MM2 > *

The first is arguably the worst.

Today OP was not a faggot but is based. Favorite boss/stage, OP? Mine's probably Fire Man. Ice Man's stage always reminds me of summer vacation 1996. Also, best music https://youtube.com/watch?v=_v-bYZ2OpK0

In what way outside of two extra bosses? Level design is beyond terrible, the three helper items are all worse than 1's Magnet Beam, and (unlike almost every MM game, including 1) there's no consistent boss weakness system. Music is also worse, but of course it's still good.

saying this as someone who still enjoys Zero 4 and just sees it as a weaker entry in a subseries that's overall good, but
>Cyber-Elf system is changed completely into something that takes the fun out of collecting them in the first three games, using a starnge incremental system where you are supposed to work your way up to other buffs while trading off previous ones, regardless of how useful they actually are
>EX skills and boss EX skills are no longer a reward/challenge for mastery but something given to you for playing a slightly more gimmicky level, removing part of the satisfaction of A-rank/S-rank runs
>chip system uses an obscure crafting mechanic that has too much trial and error (and by extension grinding)
>rod and boomerang are replaced with the Z-knuckle, which is too niche in utility to be consistently useful
>elements are tied purely to specific EX skills instead of chips, making boss weakness exploiting unintuitive and awkward

It's still good though and I love the story, but so much of it feels like it changed everything the last 3 games refined just because it wanted to say it was being new.

Mega Man 1 level design isn't all that amazing though. A bunch of areas are loaded up with octopus batteries and slows the game to a crawl.

Any section with floating blocks and Foot Holders are the worst sections in Mega Man 1. Every other section is better than anything in the other games. It also gets a plus for being short. All the other games are too fucking long or have levels that drag on forever.

>Level design is beyond terrible
How is it any different than 1 or the later entries on NES? MM2 is very straight laced with enemy placement and level gimmicks. It offers many opportunities to make challenges easier or circumvent them entirely through using special weapons cleverly. Not unlike any other MM game.
>the three helper items are all worse than 1's Magnet Beam
Nitpick at best. The Magnet beam is arguably worse not so much in utility but in its placement. It is mandatory for completing the game yet is missable. At best you are always going to be forced to do Guts Man before Elec Man unless you want to waste time backtracking. Meanwhile you are guaranteed to get all three helper items in 2 no matter what.
>there's no consistent boss weakness system
I don't even know what you are talking about. There is a weakness order and multiple ways to go about it. If you were talking about MM3 I would understand, but not this game.
>Music is also worse
Embarrassing taste.

Can't you people have just an ounce of good faith? Why would I "bait" that I like MM 1 over the others? Yeah the thread is worded a bit matter of factly but it's my honest opinion and it's just a springboard for discussion, it's not a made up opinion or provocation.

Because it is objectively worse than all the other games after it.

It's not a bad game, it's just worse than the rest of the NES Megman games.

Objectively? No it isn't. There's something to be said about the coziness of the original in my eyes anyway, it's the most refreshing of the 6 to replay. It's a perfect first entry for a series, it's not too primitive that you can't enjoy it after playing the others, the level design is great, the bosses are iconic, and the challenge is just right.

I'll be honest, I don't actually know what the consensus of the board is beyond the fact that MM2 is generally considered most people's favorite, but I didn't expect anybody to outright say it was the worst. I always wondered why it was the least talked about, but just assumed that people thought MM2 overshadowed it, not that it was "worse than all the others".

Eh, I don't get any fun out of playing Mega Man 1. I'd easily place 2, 3, 4, 7, 9, and 10 above it. I'd put Mega Man IV (Gameboy) above it, too. I've beaten the game more than once but I just don't think it's very good. Saying it's the best in the series seems like a massive stretch.

I guess that's fair. The ones after the NES series feel very different, but I enjoy them. 9 for me is like 1 and 2 but actually good, though.
