"The N64 has the worst controller ever!".

At least the N64 controller doesn't use a keypad and disk like the Colecovision and Intellivision.

We all saw your post in the other thread, you didn't have to make a new topic to repeat it.

Desperate cope

>N64 controller lacks basic features

have fun laboriously navigating menus with a cursor instead of pressing a single key

everything is relative to its era. not like the controllers were hot shit in 1979

what features at the time was it lacking?

OP confirmed for having never used the Intellivision controller

I don't have a problem with the Intellivision controller. The 5200 and Colecovision ones though are abysmal.

If he had, he'd know that the bad part about it was actually the painful-to-use side buttons.

This. I quite like the disc. It feels nice and is basically like a deep d-pad.

>> No.8466424

>>8465435
What games at the time required precise control that couldn't be achieved with the stock pads though? Wasn't it basically a glorified PONG machine anyway?

>> No.8466437

Bad controllers don't elevate each other. They can all be bad.

Those that require 16 directions. The Commando port for instance, you could shoot more precisely. The disc pad could use some improvements, it could've had indentations to give your thumb a clue which direction you're pressing, and should've looked more like a modern analog stick in my opinion, but I think it had tons of potential. It's a lot more innovative and has more potential than nintendo dpad.

I'd love to see a modern reworking of the Intellivision controller have something like the thumb stick from a Neo Geo Pocket, fully decked out with a microswitch for each of the 16 directions. Sadly you could only use it on certain Intellivision models that can use detachable controllers, that or it'd have to just be hardwired into the console. A bit of a headache but sounds like a fun project.

D pad with wheel attachment made by the very same people. Only experimental stages, but the idea is fine tuning as you move normally with the directional. A replacement for analogue proposed but failed.

I wish this is what I wish the atari jaguar controller looked like.

>> No.8466795

I never understand why people complain about keypads. Having extra keys for selecting and menus is a great thing.
The main problem is that the games for these systems were to primitive they mainly used it to select the difficulty.

And history is repeating itself with the Amico! People have been specifically complaining about the side buttons on the Amico controller, in particular about how they're squishy and not clicky.

people who bitch about the N64 controller never really used one, just parroted shit from youtube or memes.
also the colecovision joystick was fine. good console.

Exactly, it would be wonderful for RPGs. Shooter games on the jaguar use the keypad for weapon selection.

Are they rubbery like the flashback buttons? Honestly, I thought that was an improvement over the originals. I swear I still have a rectangular thumb indentation from the early '80s.
