Hi anons!

I just saw that there's no dosbox thread here... So I decided to make one!

What games does /vr/ play on dosbox?

Quake 2. http://dk.toastednet.org/Q2DOS/

Woah, thanks pal! I didn't knew about this one :-)

>> No.8459465

I play Fighting Games since I like documenting and doing research on them.
Some run like shit and I need to step up my game on CPU speed issues or remapping the keyboard (Korean games are notorious for this since they usually use Tab and Shift as buttons)

Also I use the Dfend Reloaded frontend cause I'd rather have a couple of icons to just click and play instead of relying on the command line.

Is there any way to get this thing to auto-populate based on directories with .conf files or whatever?

>> No.8459479

>>8459472
I was gonna ask the same thing since all the games I got in there don't have shit as far as config or information goes.
The only one that had some sort of autocfg/info was One Must Fall 2097.

Space Fuel Inc is another cool game, and a very recent one.

I usually use these sites:

https://www.old-games.ru/
>Amazing, has a lot of obscure stuff I couldn't find otherwise. Also has a couple of ready to go virtual windows setups for those difficult to emulate games. It's in russian but use google translate and you'll be fine.

https://www.myabandonware.com/
Pretty easy to navigate and has games from other home computers like Amiga.

https://www.old-games.com/
I both love and hate this site. Sometimes it's the only place I can find some games, but it has a stupid timer/limit thing so use sparingly.

http://www.abandonia.com/
Used to check abandonia a lot, nowadays not so much. It has some nice reviews.

http://www.abandonsocios.org/
Lots of great stuff here, but the forum layout can be a bitch to go through.
Also it's in spanish.

You looking for something specific anon?

DOSbros, check out GLADIATOR

https://www.myabandonware.com/game/gladiator-1n8

Pretty sure the registered version is available for free now by the developers. If this version isn't the registered version, let me know, I'll hook you up with mine.

I love this game bros. It's not that good actually, but I played it as a good so it's automatically awesome.

And I'm not really looking for something specific, I just want to dive myself into the dosbox catalog.

This is Taikou Rishiden, right?
I played the genesis port and remember really liking how free it felt.
Like, not even 2 seconds in and I already could either go with the army and get the cutscenes and SRPG battle or go on my own and be a wandering Samurai and have cool 1v1 battles.

Does it have a translation or something?

Taikou Risshiden 2 for DOS (ported from PC-98).
In Taikou Risshiden 2 you start as Hideyoshi, but after completing the game you can start as either Akechi Mitsuhide, Shibata Katsuie, or a new character (choose portrait, age, name).
Hideyoshi, Mitsuhide and Katsuie are Nobunaga's officers.
New character is a ronin (wandering samurai) and must find a lord to serve.
You can resign your job and become a wandering samurai.

I used to use DOS/V in 90s, but I use DOSJP in DOSBOX.
There're some chink sites where you can download but I think it's the Chinese translated version.
Good luck downloading from chink sites, they're a major pain in the ass with their great firewall.

I've tried PCem, but it uses the same trusty old and fucking broken Soundblaster emulation as Dosbox. I was curious about x86Box but they too, use the same shitty old Soundblaster driver. But it's just a handful of games that really suffer from this. I'm looking at you, Star Trek A Final Unity.
What other options are there?
