not necessarily on the internet but in my friends circle i am the only person who plays retro games regularly and think they are superior to new games, keep in my mind we all are in our early 20's, so they started treating me like i am a crazy person or just pretending to like them for attention so i stopped trying to convince them, their main gripes is always the graphics or the fixed camera and tank controls even though they never touched any of these games.

At some point last decade every website went insane, and discussing games never mind retro games became completely pointless

i am actually still recovering from that even after 2-3 years, first time was because of an online shooter, it gotten so bad that i couldn't play any other game for more than 10 minutes without closing the game, it took me a whole year to recover from this.
second time with trophy/achievement hunting, before i would boot up a new game i would look at the trophy list and how many playthroughs are required for the platinum trophy and how many are missable trophies, it was such a miserable time because i would only play games with easy platinum whether they were good games or not but i am 95% past this problem, it still haunt me from time to time.
Modern games are just designed to get you addicted, there is no passion about creating them, my generation is fucked.

My friends play mostly newer games by themselves but whenever they come over they always want to play something older with me, or have me backseat some modern Nintendo/Japanese shit I own they're interested in. I've been playing a bunch of 16 bit co-op games with my best friend and this year we beat the DKC series, Japanese Contra Hard Corps, some Kirbys and Goemons too, we're up to DKCR. Also whenever there's more than two of us we like playing Bomberman 94 multiplayer on my Wii U cause it's easier to set up the up to 5 people we've had there than in the computer. Either that, or we play old point and clicks together, we beat Monkey Island 1-2 and King's Quest 5, want to do 6 when we can. I even had two friends play Super Mario World co-op and they said "there was more stuff in than they thought in that game, they always thought it would have been way simpler and easier". I want to play MGS3 with them at some point, I already had one play through Snake vs Monkey to get used to the controls, he loved it.

In my group everyone knows that I prefer older games and no one got a problem with it and they all play shit like yearly AssCreeds and latest AAA Sony game, the only clash I've had with them is saying that The Witcher 3 is the worst Witcher game. At least they know where I am coming from and that I know what I'm talking about.

No, i mainly talk about the great level design and simplistic gameplay and how it make these games timeless classics, that they don't feel outdated even to newcomers like myself, i have started getting into retro games approximately a year or two ago.
the only time i unironically used "soul/soulless" and "muh microtransactions" is with Demon Souls remake, Demon Souls (2009) have been part of my childhood and seeing it get butchered and get praised for it was the straw that broke the camel's back.

never said that every new game released is bad, i play some of them here and there, i said "superior" because the retro design philosophy is simply better for games and that every game should strife to incorporate, that's why i liked the retro inspired FPS resurgence recently for example, now if a retro inspired triple A game released today everyone would be shitting on it saying "it's too video gamey", you have to understand that new video games should have at least 25% of playtime dedicated to cutscenes and i don't like that at all, it irritates me.

Spent about 6 years. No success so far.
